The Work Planner is responsible for establishing communication with all developers, customers, or other stakeholders for all work released for scheduling. The Work Planner should maintain communication so that customer expectations are clearly understood and documented in EPB business systems so that work can be scheduled effectively during the planning and execution of primary energy and communication infrastructure, which can entail prioritizing over 200 work orders totaling over $20 million at any given time. The Work Planner works with customers and internal groups such as Construction, Project Management, and Energy Services to ensure the work's completion in a timely and efficient manner. This role closely coordinates with the Work Scheduler, prioritizing with a heavy emphasis on customer-driven work and meeting customer commitments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service by effectively communicating project requirements and timelines.
- Ensure customer expectations regarding timelines and quality are met or exceeded.
- Coordinate and manage daily tasks of ongoing projects through field coordination and decision-making.
- Communicate project due dates by phase, facilitating resource allocation and scheduling through written and oral forms.
- Conduct post-job customer follow-up inquiries to identify successes and areas for improvement.
- Efficiently schedule and coordinate all construction aspects, including fiber optics installation.
- Identify opportunities for process and scheduling improvement, communicate findings to management, and oversee implementation at the Supervisor level.
- Manage projects with a keen eye on financial parameters, ensuring adherence to budgets ranging from $15 to $20 million
- Proactively contact customers to schedule or coordinate work as needed and resolve any issues.
- Discuss ideas to improve or establish new processes and procedures with the immediate management team.
- Act as a single point of contact for the customer in coordination with the Work Scheduler from the approval of a primary work project by Electric or Fiber Design through operational completion.
- Coordinate with the Work Scheduler and all relevant working groups involved in projects to ensure smooth workflow and meet work order commitments while maintaining productivity measures.
- Coordinate with construction and preventative maintenance departments to secure the necessary resources to complete primary work.
- Communicate and expedite revisions and resolve customer-effecting issues with engineering and design.
- Provide valuable input in customer-date-driven work planning sessions to prioritize and allocate resources with construction leadership.
- Maintain exceptional documentation regarding customer communications, milestones, and delivery date changes to track EPB work progress accurately.
- Effectively communicate field information with customers and departments to ensure planned or emergency work completion.
- Design and create emergency work orders and job packs during outages and emergency response situations.
- Contribute to various storm work roles in-office and in the field as needed.
- Available to work 24/7/365 - Shift Work; Regular work hours include evenings, overnights, and weekends; Overtime is required - mainly during storms or other system events. Working on holidays for operational needs may be required.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree with a background in industrial technology or journeyman-level trade apprenticeship in the electric field.
- 3+ years' experience in electric construction and infrastructure development.
- Ability to work and communicate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Knowledge of basic office systems such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to become proficient in all EPB business system applications used to plan, assign, execute, and monitor work, including Pragma, CAD, EnQuesta, Omnia, OMS, GT Viewer, RESCO SPAN, and other applications used in daily operations.
- Demonstrated excellent organization, analytical, time management, and customer service skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with customers.
- Customer-focused mindset, committed to delivering high-quality results and exceeding customer expectations.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to anticipate and address project risks and obstacles.
Certification(s) & Other Requirements
- Must be able to participate in an ongoing on-call rotation that focuses on the convenience of our customers.
- Ability to accept responsibility, think independently, and make logical decisions as it relates to field issues during day-to-day operations and planning.
- Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in the state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from management, field personnel, customers, and the public clearly and concisely.
- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, probability, and statistics. Must have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to complete required reports, written and on the computer.
Physical Demands
- The work environment typically represents a standard office setting.
- At times, the work will require detailed analysis and planning to schedule work for optimum efficiency. At other times, the environment will be stressful as assignments are made to deal with system emergencies.
- The regular work hours for this position will include evenings, overnights, and weekends.
