New York, New York, United States Chelsea Day School Full time

About Us:

Chelsea Day School, a play based preschool program, known for its commitment to progressive education is currently seeking a teacher for their Toddler Group. The overall program follows the principles of early childhood development. As our Mission states, we nurture and guide each child physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually, in an environment where learning unfolds through play, inquiry and exploration. Creativity and artistic expression are honored and part of every day.

Our Toddler Group is a program for children ages 15 to 24 months accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The program creates a structure where children follow a routine that is consistent, helping children to transition from one activity to another with increasing ease. The teachers provide a setting where adult and child can play with open ended, age-appropriate materials as language and communication skills develop. These skills are developed through story time, open exploration with interesting materials, singing songs, and modeling the behavior of teachers as they interact with children.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster each child's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development through engaging activities and play-based learning.
  • Create an environment where children feel safe and nurtured.
  • Plan and implement age-appropriate routines
  • Manage transitions smoothly, including handwashing, potty breaks, and snack time, with sensitivity to individual needs
  • Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers in the classroom, sharing insights through weekly written recaps/newsletter. Qualifications:
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and caregivers.
    • Previous experience working with toddlers in an educational setting.
    • Comfortable leading a group and managing classroom dynamics.
    • Early Childhood Education degree preferred
    • Genuine respect and appreciation of small children
    • A passion for fostering thoughtfulness about learning in young children.
