Job Summary

The Director of Development will be responsible for cultivating relationships with donors and coordinating specialized and ongoing programs to raise funds, from individuals, corporations and foundations. Reporting to the Executive Director of Individual Engagement, the Director of Development will be responsible for strategic and identification, and management of a portfolio of 150+ prospects. In coordination with Advancement colleagues, the Director of Development also will encourage the full participation of his/her portfolio in the annual giving and alumni relations programs, moving them through the solicitation cycle and providing appropriate follow-up and stewardship activities that ensure donors' continued commitment to the college.

Responsibilities


• Identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects for assigned constituents and areas, collaborating with college colleagues; Perform major gift prospect identification, research and internal and external communications for assigned areas, both independently and collaboratively with college colleagues and/or key volunteers.


• Makes personal visits to prospects to cultivate their interest in GGC and solicit financial support; steward existing relationships, as assigned, and prepare reports for these donors reflecting the uses of their gifts.


• Create effective and impactful proposals for grants, individual gifts, and corporate sponsorships and other communications to prospects based on GGC priorities and prospect interest.


• Oversee the coordination of area-related advisory councils, societies or Boards of Visitors, as assigned.


• Assist college colleagues in building the resources necessary for successful prospect/donor relationship development and fundraising, as assigned.


• Participate in short-range and long-range strategic planning with the Executive Director of Individual Engagement to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising goals, objectives and plans. This will include creating and implementing an effective management, evaluation, and reporting system for assigned development priorities.


• Manage information on and activities with key constituents and provide regular reporting on progress through Raiser's Edge.


• Represent GGC and its Advancement division at local and business community meetings, events, etc. as assigned; work on assigned special college-wide projects and provide support at college events.


• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the college, its history, programs and funding priorities and be able to articulate the GGC story to prospects, donors and the greater community; other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


• 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree


• 3-5 years of successful experience in fundraising, sales or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications


• 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree


• Experience in major gift fundraising in higher education and working successfully with alumni, faculty, administration, and a variety of other constituents associated with a college.


• 5-7 years of successful experience in fundraising, including success in grant writing and/or corporate relations.

• Team oriented and have a demonstrated ability to work successfully with various internal constituencies.


• Have a high comfort level integrating and using various types of technology in daily work activities.


• Ability to work independently, setting timelines to meet deadlines.


• Ability to demonstrate a proven track record of fundraising success with a record of achieving and exceeding goals, with specific focus on the priority initiatives of Georgia Gwinnett College.


• Self-starter who requires little supervision to succeed. Strong situational awareness and astute judgment.


• Strong organization and leadership capabilities


• Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple programs and activities concurrently


• Exemplary interpersonal skills and community relations skills are essential, as is the ability to motivate and impact volunteer leaders and major gift donors.


• Ability to function well on a collegial team and be capable of succeeding in a fast-paced, collaborative and fluid work environment focused on performance and outcomes.


• Strong presentation and public speaking skills in addition to exceptional oral and written communication skills.


• Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a community.


• Ability to develop and implement comprehensive goals, strategies, and plans


• General knowledge of budget preparation and financial/business analysis techniques
