We are looking for Software Engineering Managers who thrive in leading, growing, and managing cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment. Your role will encompass two main areas: HR management of your direct reports and collaboration with your Program Manager to meticulously guide your team. You will maintain a comprehensive understanding of the project's state, helping drive consistent, on-time delivery of products and features.

As a leader, you will steer technical discussions and decision-making processes within your team. Your role demands superb communication skills, characterized by ego-free leadership. You are adept at explaining complex technical concepts to a diverse audience, including designers, support staff, and executives. Familiarity with our tech stack, which includes modern web app technologies such as Ruby/Rails, Python, and Javascript/TypeScript/React, and data handling tools like PostgreSQL, PySpark, Databricks, Prefect, and Kafka, is highly beneficial.

This role reports directly to the VP of Software Engineering and is critical in maintaining our commitment to innovation and excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Domain Mastery: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the investment management domain, specifically oil and gas, mineral rights, renewables, and other real property, to fluently converse with stakeholders and deeply grasp the features to be developed.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with your product management counterpart to ensure seamless project flow. Ensure that the engineering team is consistently supplied with well-defined and properly prioritized tasks, aiding in driving efficient delivery.
  • Team Management and Development: Directly manage and support your team members, focusing on coaching, mentoring, and crafting plans for their career progression.
  • Technical Debt and Feature Delivery Balance: Skillfully balance the demands of addressing technical debt and delivering new features. Communicate this balance effectively to leadership, ensuring strategic alignment.
  • Mentorship and Code Review: Act as a mentor to other engineers, guiding them through code reviews and contributing to their professional growth.
  • Process and Technology Enhancement: Play a key role in refining our engineering processes and adopting new technologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience building, scaling, and maintaining cloud-based web apps
  • 3+ years of experience managing a team of software engineers
  • Hands on experience designing enterprise SaaS applications
  • You have hands-on experience with Ruby/Rails, Javascript/TypeScript, Python, Golang, or other modern stacks.
  • You are experienced in data modeling and polyglot persistence, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • You possess strong software computer science and software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, modern programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval.
  • You have experience with cloud architecture, application architecture, and network architecture.
  • BSc/BA in computer science, engineering, or a related field; a graduate degree is a plus
  • A Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred, although significant relevant experience can also be considered.
