We are currently seeking a Assistant Quality Assurance Officer to join our team in Bangor, Washington (US-WA), United States (US).

The Assistant Quality Assurance Officer (AQOA) supports Submarine Squadrons in Bangor, Washington and Puget Sound, Washington.

The primary duties of this position are:

  • Perform work that requires a practical knowledge of the nature and operations of submarine repairs and refurbishments.
  • Understand the unique requirements of nuclear powered vessels, Submarine Safety Program (SUBSAFE), Scope of Certification (SOC), Fly by Wire (FBW) and the QA/Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) required of such repairs.
  • Advise and assist the Material/Quality Assurance Officer on matters pertaining to Quality Assurance, SOC, FBW and SUBSAFE programs.
  • Administer or manage the Departure from Specification (DFS) system for submarines to:
  • Establish and maintain systems of processing requests for DFSs.
  • Review and evaluate DFS requests and obtain clarification of technical specifications.
  • Approve or disapprove DFS requests, as allowed by JFMM. Obtain TYCOM/NAVSEA approval of DFS when required by the appropriate TYCOM/NAVSEA directive, technical specification or manual.
  • Ensure submission of Office of the Chief of Naval Operation (OPNAV) form 4790/2K to document DFS required action in the ship's CSMP.
  • Maintain files of outstanding DFSs.
  • Aggressively pursue clearing of DFSs.
  • Schedule and conduct QA program assessments in conjunction with the Inter-Deployment Training Cycle of all assigned ships to ensure the repair actions undertaken by Ship's Force conform to the provisions of the QA program as well as pertinent technical requirements.
  • Perform annual SUBSAFE/SOC/FBW awareness training for staff members that routinely review SUBSAFE/SOC/FBW objective quality evidence.
  • Provides monthly training to submarine QA and Assistant QA Officers on topics and requirements from the JFMM, SUBSAFE manual, and/or other NAVSEA technical manuals.
  • Assist in 3M inspections, fleet maintenance activity, Quality Assurance and material management assessments as requested

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience with QA program and FMP management practices and a thorough knowledge of automated modernization information systems applicable to Departure from Specifications (DFS), electronic DFS (eDFS), ATIS, RMAIS, VSB and SHIPALTS and A&Is contractor and installation activities.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in submarine maintenance, IMA or submarine repair.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Quality Assurance Inspector (QAI) or ships 3M Coordinator or monitoring the 3M or QA system while working in a Submarine Material Office (N4 Squadron, FMA, NSSC, Shipyard or higher
  • BA/BS Degree
  • Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Military experience.
