The Lead Bartender position is a unique opportunity within the property. This is an action role, not an office job. This hotel will encompass multiple outlets providing culinary, drink and entertainment options that cover a wide range of interests. This position appreciates all forms of beverage service and knows how to tailor a variety of programs for our guests. Sometimes a guests wants to be introduced to a handcrafted cocktail or a celebratory bottle of wine. Other times a guest just wants a local, favorite brew. We cater to all because what matters to us in the end is that our guests are happy and comfortable in our presence. This position is not just about design. It's really about the action There will be a large bar staff over many outlets that will need leadership, guidance and structure. This position is made for someone who can think about the big picture and guest details all at the same time. This person finds passion being present on the floor during service, directly impacting the guest and staff experience.

What exactly you will be doing...


In helping you understand your role in working for a progressive, environment conscious, world class organization, the following is a list of your essential job responsibilities. Please keep in mind that this list is not all inclusive and that you may be asked to perform other job tasks by your supervisors/managers not listed below in the constant quest to provide "out of this world" customer service experience for our guests:

  • Overseeing the execution of key programming. This hotel will have multiple outlets with multiple concepts. You will be spearheading this for a specific outlet within the hotel and collaborating with beverage direction and other outlet managers to ensure everything is carried out effectively and communication remains consistent.
  • Team player. This is a very unique position as you will be working with a very talented group of individuals. You will be working closely with beverage director, entertainment coordinator, outlet managers, event directors and hotel managers daily. They might all have different needs for their event or 's your job and pleasure to make that happen.
  • Communication. Maintaining an open pathway between all relevant departments, including but not limited to banquets/catering, sales/marketing and entertainment/programming. Not only do you have to be a mastermind of keeping track of all of this but you have to consistently spread the word about the joy you bring. Managers, hourly colleagues and guests need to be "in the know"
  • Standardization. Nothing goes amiss on the floor because you've done all the work in advance. Your team knows exactly what product to pull and how much to prep. They have followed clear recipe direction and usage of materials to create consistent drinks time and time again.

  • Candidates must have consistent years of hospitality experience in higher volume bar, cocktail bar and/or restaurant locations.
  • Strong communication and presentational skills
  • Creativity and innovation are essential
  • Ability to think outside the box and approach all issues with a completely fresh approach
  • Ability to anticipate needs and over deliver wherever possible
  • Candidates must think on their feet and use their initiative to solve problems and deliver solutions
  • Comply with all safety and health department procedures, as well as comply with all state and federal liquor laws
  • Ability to change direction and work on multiple project aspects at once
  • Enthusiastic, passionate, able to engage with and motivate others
  • Leadership ability and behavior consistent with Virgin Hotels Core Values: Fun, innovative, original and personable, and striving to deliver high quality and brilliant customer service

Background Must Have
  • Current, legal and unrestricted ability to work in the United States
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
  • Food Service Handler Card and TIPS certification that is currently valid for a minimum of at least 6 months
  • Preferred: 3-5 years' experience in a high volume bar, working knowledge of classic cocktails and ingredients, full service restaurant or lounge in hotel management
