The Learning Support Teacher (LST) will add to our dynamic team of two experienced Learning Support Coordinators and collaborate closely with faculty and families to empower students to recognize their strengths as learners. In this role, you will guide students in cultivating self-awareness and self-advocacy while imparting valuable skills and strategies. As an integral member of our faculty, the LST will work in tandem with classroom teachers to enhance overall student achievement within the classroom environment.

Major Responsibilities for the Learning Support Teacher position:

The LST works one-on-one and in small groups with students both during the school day and after school. During learning support sessions, the LST will help students develop their own toolbox of learning strategies. The LST consults regularly with teachers to help them better understand individual students' needs and offer suggestions/support for classroom learning.

The LST is responsible for the following:

  • Manage and support a caseload of students with learning differences. The Learning Specialist acts as the primary contact for parents and guardians of their caseload of students.
  • Keep records of all student sessions to demonstrate alignment with student goals and objectives.
  • Observe classes and meet with faculty to stay abreast of faculty's curriculum content, learning expectations, teaching tools, processes, and styles of communication.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of SCDS' learning support department.
  • Attend team meetings by department, grade level, and division as necessary.
  • Proctor standardized tests as needed. Required professional qualities:

    • A strong understanding of how learning differences and social and emotional concerns overlap and inter-relate.
    • Highly organized, with strong interpersonal skills, and adept with technology.
    • Timeliness and punctuality. Required qualifications:

      Applicants should have a bachelor's degree with significant mathematics, writing, and reading coursework and are either pursuing or holding an Education Specialist credential. An advanced degree in education is highly preferable, as is experience working with high-readiness students as well as those with learning differences. The individual should have experience supporting students with any of the following: a specific learning disability, ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, social communication disorder, executive functioning deficit, etc. Applicants should have a high comfort level and facility with technology as it pertains to supporting students with learning challenges in the general education classroom. Strong interpersonal skills, a growth mindset, and flexibility are essential. The LST position is a salaried position.

      Salary, Benefits, and Expectations

      This position offers a competitive salary of $65k to $110k, depending on experience, and includes benefits. Hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a weekly faculty meeting until 4:30, and team planning meetings may require additional time. Occasional evening and weekend commitments are required throughout the school year.
