Mission

Reeves Construction Company is currently seeking an individual for the position of Asphalt Paver Screed Operator based out of Columbia, SC. The successful candidate for this role will have an uncompromising focus on safety excellence. Asphalt Paver Screed Operator's primary function is to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade and finish. The Asphalt Paver Screed Operator is also responsible for ensuring the consistency of the asphalt mat and the overall ride quality of the finished pavement.

Main Responsibilities

This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Needs to have the ability to correctly set up paver screed, lay a uniform thickness.
  • An accurate and working knowledge of the paver screed (ex. correct speed, check on material coming out of truck, straight lines)
  • The ability to take a leadership role on the crew
  • The willingness and ability to keep paver and screed maintained and clean
  • The willingness to work nights and weekends
  • The ability to operate equipment in a safe and consistent manner
Qualifications, Skills, Certifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have 6 months to 1 year of experience
  • Must have knowledge of various asphalt mixes
  • Must have experience working in and around construction equipment
  • Provide own transportation to and from work

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved, written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employees must have 20/40 vision, either naturally or with corrective lenses. Hearing should be excellent or corrected by audio device.
