Summary

About the Position: This position is located at the Office of The Judge Advocate General, HQDA, Pentagon, Arlington, VA

If you are currently serving in a permanent, competitive service appointment in the Federal service, and are selected for this position, the appointment will remove you from the competitive service while you occupy this position.



Duties
  • Serves as the principal legal advisor to the ARSTAF and The Judge Advocate General on legal issues and policy affecting the Army Adverse Information Program (AAIP) and corresponding web-based portal.
  • Assists in searches of AAIP records for approved purposes, reviews supporting documents and conducts legal reviews of adverse information summaries generated from AAIP records.
  • Provides training and assistance on AAIP to ARSTAF, Army Secretariat, Army Review Boards Agency, The Judge Advocate General, staff judge advocates world-wide and Army field commands.
  • Maintains quality control of AAIP portal records, including modification or removal of records based on reconsideration, changes in law or policy, and pursuant to recordkeeping policies.
  • Provides oral and written advice and technical legal guidance to key officials, and, to subordinate Army organizations concerning interpretation of Federal law, DOD policy, and Army policy governing adverse information screening.
  • Reviews, coordinates, and recommends policy updates to Army and DoD AAIP-related policies for system management and utilization requirements.
  • Coordinates with ARSTAF and Army Secretariat on issues related to adverse information screening, to include advising on whether information constitutes adverse information.
  • Advises HQDA G-1 and HRC boards secretariat on internal SOPs and policies for adverse information screening and provision to promotion boards.
  • Responsible for properly coordinating, when appropriate, with the Office of the General Counsel of the Army and other Office of the Judge Advocate General or United States Army Legal Services Agency Divisions.
  • Depending on workload requirements as determined by Chief, Administrative Law Division, incumbent may be required to provide oral or written legal advice concerning any issue pending legal review by the Administrative Law Division.
