About The Role

Buying a car is a significant and thrilling investment for customers, involving various steps and considerations from online vehicle research to financing understanding, and ultimately selecting the perfect car. Every year, millions of customers turn to CarMax in search of their ideal vehicle. The Retail Strategy team harnesses data, analytics, and strategy to ensure customers receive exceptional service today, while also propelling CarMax's eCommerce & omnichannel progression forward.

The Retail Strategy team comprises several sub-teams focusing on different aspects of the retail journey. As a Manager in Retail Strategy, you will collaborate with partners from our Product, Technology, and Operations divisions to propel the retail business ahead within a team dedicated to one of these areas:

  • Web Strategy – Analyzing, understanding, and informing priorities to enhance customers' upper funnel search & finance experiences on CarMax's digital properties
  • Product Strategy – Building & improving online progression steps that enable customers to complete as much of the car buying process online as desired
  • Customer Experience Center (CEC) Strategy – Guaranteeing exceptional service provision to customers seeking assistance via phone, text, or chat at CarMax's contact center while remotely shopping for a vehicle
  • Sales Strategy – Ensuring an exceptional in-store shopping experience for all customers, irrespective of whether they have completed online buying process steps
  • Business Operations Strategy – Facilitating a swift & convenient process for customers in-store when they are prepared to transact

What You Will Do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Offer insights to set the strategic path for partners in Product, Technology, and Operations
  • Collaborate across the organization to align the strategy of all teams you support with CarMax's overarching retail vision
  • Enhance analytical tools, such as data sets, models, reports, and dashboards, utilizing them to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement
  • Propose value-generating concepts and collaborate with partners to prioritize and implement these initiatives
  • Plan & conduct tests to assess the impact of alterations to our products and operations effectively

Qualifications and Requirements

Demonstrated capability to consistently deliver at a high level on the mentioned responsibilities. The following requirements are illustrative of the knowledge and skills necessary:

  • An established track record of outstanding problem-solving, strategic thinking, and quantitative/qualitative analysis
  • Experience in conducting extensive data analysis to underpin conclusions, and a willingness to master data analysis tools like SQL or Tableau
  • Ability to apply business and technical insights to resolve complex issues, yield results, and offer recommendations
  • Capacity to explain complex subjects to individuals with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of technical familiarity
  • Enthusiastic about collaborating with a team of dedicated analysts and business partners shaping strategy at both a broad and detailed level on a regular basis
  • Four or more years of experience in an analytical or strategic capacity
  • Bachelor's degree with exceptional academic performance

Work Location and Arrangement: The work location is flexible within 100 miles of the Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center, Dallas Technology Hub, or Atlanta, GA CarMax Auto Finance Office subject to Company approval.

Work Authorization: Candidates must currently be authorized to work full-time in the United States.
