College of Education - Program of Higher Education Leadership and Policy - Professional Track Faculty Position 2024

The Program of Higher Education Leadership and Policy (PHELP) in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a professional-track (non-tenure-track) assistant or associate professor of practice, beginning summer or fall 2024. PHELP is a vibrant, diverse, mutually supportive community of nationally recognized scholars within a highly ranked department and college. We offer master's and Ph.D. programs, both of which emphasize the scholarly study of higher education, its students and institutions, and its place in society. We prepare students to be researchers, student affairs practitioners, and administrators.

We seek a candidate with experience teaching and training practitioners and scholars. The candidate will teach and advise PHELP graduate students at both the master's and doctoral levels, participate in course planning and development, and provide service to the department as needed. The appointment would be 75% teaching and 25% administrative duties including department service, meetings, and committees. Key teaching needs include higher education law, history of higher education, assessment, research methods, and student affairs-related courses. The candidate would teach across our master's and doctoral programs and help with developing new courses as needed.

UT can offer a one-year contract for new professional-track faculty, with the possibility of extension. Applicants should also have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring in the field and practice.

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy also includes Education Policy and Planning and several leadership preparation programs (Cooperative Superintendency Program, Texas Principal Leadership Academy). The person in this role would primarily work in PHELP but would be expected to collaborate closely with others across policy and leadership program areas.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Earned doctorate in in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Educational Policy, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
Qualifications to teach courses in some of the following areas: higher education law, history of higher education, social and cultural contexts of education; as well as assessment, qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed research methods; academic writing, and expertise in teaching in multiple areas; elective higher education courses.
Experience or capacity to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students from a wide range of backgrounds and advance the College's mission.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong background or engagement in higher education and student affairs issues, especially in the state of Texas
At least 3 years of teaching experience
