The University of Texas at Austin, College of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking a faculty member in Bilingual/Bicultural Education (BBE) at the assistant professor level. The mission of this program area is to study educational equity relating to bilingual and multilingual learners and their families in the state of Texas and in broader contexts utilizing approaches that recognize the assets of communities. The faculty member will join a group of tenure-track assistant professors in the College who address research and academic programs focused on reducing education and/or health disparities among Latinx children, families, and communities. Our department has robust undergraduate and graduate programs and is ranked seventh in Curriculum & Instruction departments by U.S. News & World Report. We are committed to an intellectually diverse, welcoming, and engaging working and learning environment and are seeking candidates whose research, teaching and service prepared them to contribute to our commitment to serving students from across Texas, the country, and world, including those who have been historically underrepresented in higher education.

The successful candidate for this position will have strong potential for research excellence focused broadly on bilingual/bicultural education and language acquisition. They will work collaboratively in a program and department dedicated to equity and social justice as well as provide leadership at the local, state, and national level in bilingual/bicultural education. We are particularly interested in scholars pursuing research impact in eliminating intersectional disparities in outcomes for students, families, and communities in culturally and linguistically diverse/complex settings. Areas of focus may include language variation in Texas and broader contexts as it relates to teaching and teacher education; language policy; translanguaging pedagogies and practices; and the acquisition of language and literacy for bilingual/multilingual learners.

We expect the successful candidate will have potential for securing external grants to support their program of research, at the level necessary to ensure the impact of their work. In addition, the successful candidate will be an excellent mentor and will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching. BBE prepares Spanish/English bilingual teachers and prepares administrators, teacher educators and education researchers in the field of BBE. High needs in undergraduate teaching include required courses for all undergraduates in the College addressing the acquisition of language and literacy, as well as content area courses in the EC-6 BBE teacher education program. At the graduate level, the highest priority are graduate courses in the areas of second language acquisition, critical language perspectives, sociolinguistics, language policy, and language pedagogies in addition to courses related to the faculty member's program of research in bilingual/bicultural education. The faculty member will also supervise Master's and Doctoral Students.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. (or appropriate terminal degree) in bilingual education or a related field.

Potential for scholarly leadership (i.e., refereed publications) in the areas of bilingual/bicultural, dual language and/or critical language education.

Potential for securing extramural research funding.

Experience or capacity to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students from a wide range of backgrounds and advance the College's mission.

Three years' experience teaching as a PK-12 teacher, early childhood teacher, preferably in a bilingual or multilingual classroom.

Language proficiency for teaching courses in Spanish. Undergraduate teacher certification courses for the BBE EC-6 program are taught in Spanish, and BBE faculty provide academic language support for students pursuing Spanish/English bilingual certification.
