Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Conducts tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.Installs equipment,engines,hoses,batteries,tires,wheels/brakes,HVAC,wiring,etc.,orprogramstomeetspecifications. Watches gauges, dials, or otherindicators to make sure equipment is working properly. Service, repairs, adjusts, and tests machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical principles.Inspects equipment, structures, etc., of materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.Analyzes information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
DUTIES:
1.Adjustandrelinebrakes,alignwheels,tightenboltsandscrews,andreassembleequipment.
2.Alignfrontendsandsuspensionsystems.
3.Attachtestinstruments toequipmentandreaddialsandgauges inordertodiagnosemalfunctions.
4.Disassembleandoverhaulinternalcombustionengines,pumps,generators,transmissions,clutches,and differential units.
5.Examineandadjust protectiveguards,loosebolts,andspecifiedsafetydevices.
6.Inspectbrakesystems,steeringmechanisms,wheelbearings,andotherimportantpartstoensurethattheyare in proper operating condition.
7.Inspect,repair,andmaintainautomotiveandmechanicalequipmentandmachinerysuchaspumpsandcompressors.
8.Inspect,test,andlistentodefectiveequipmenttodiagnosemalfunctions,usingtestinstrumentssuchas handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
9.Operatevalve-grindingmachinestogrindandresetvalves.
10.Performroutinemaintenancesuchaschangingoil,checkingbatteries,andlubricatingequipmentandmachinery.
11.Raisetrucks,buses,andheavypartsorequipmentusinghydraulicjacksorhoists.

13.Reconditionandreplaceparts,pistons,bearings,gears,andvalves.

19.Usehandtoolssuchasscrewdrivers,pliers,wrenches,pressuregauges,andprecisioninstruments,aswellas power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.

REQUIREMENTS:
Mechanic A:5+ years' experience.Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair the most difficult of all vehicle and equipment service.Must be able to teach Mechanic B and C as time permits, more complex repair techniques.Must demonstrate superior mechanical skills and mentoring capabilities.Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot andrepairthemost difficultofall vehiclesandequipment inservice.TheMechanicAmust beable toteachMechanicBandCs,astimepermits,morecomplexrepairtechniques.TheMechanicAmustdemonstrate superior customer service skills and mentoring capabilities as well as perform other duties to ensure the safe operation and efficiency of the department. The Mechanic A must possess a CDL license with air brakes and a passenger endorsement, 609 and 608 air conditioning certifications and at least four (4) H, T, or EV series ASE certifications.ASE Certification is the preferred method of hiring and promotion.
In lieu of ASE Certifications an A Tech must have four (4) years of full-time heavy-duty vehicle maintenance experience and pass a practical test demonstrating A Tech proficiency.
