Job Summary:

A Journey Level Diesel Mechanic is needed to join our Fleet Maintenance team at a public transportation agency in Pierce County. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of journey-level mechanical work experience in transit, bus, automotive, freightliner, or over-the-road coach maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in natural gas, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnosing issues.
  • Repair, adjust, or replace complete or integral parts of engines, transmissions, drive trains, and differentials.
  • Inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair bus door operation, air-ride systems, steering systems, and wheelchair lifts.
  • Notify the Fleet Assistant Manager of necessary repairs.
  • Enter work order data on Agency personal computers and on handwritten work orders.

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of journey-level mechanical work experience in transit, bus, automotive, freightliner, or over-the-road coach maintenance.
  • Use jacks, wrenches, grease guns, hydraulic hoists, cleaning materials, and other tools and equipment used in the service and repair of heavy equipment.
  • Pass a job-related examination and federally required drug and alcohol testing.
  • Knowledge of principles of spark-ignited or diesel powered engines.
  • Drive all job-related vehicles and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and CDL as required.
