Summary

This social worker position is assigned 75% of the time to the Brockton Urgent Care (BR UC) with responsibility to provide direct services for adult and geriatric Veterans and their families, and

25% of the time, the Social Worker will be assigned to the Integration Recovery and Treatment section (BR ICIRT). The SW will provide recovery-oriented services to Veterans with Serous Mental Illness.

Duties

Final disposition will be completed once the position has been filled or the announcement reaches the end of the open period stated in the announcement.

This social worker (SW, or "incumbent") is assigned:
75% to the Brockton Urgent Care (BR UC) with responsibility to provide direct services for adult and geriatric Veterans and their families who present for services in this area including psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, short-term and solution focused counseling with individuals and families who may be in crisis, nursing home placements, education and referral for resources and

benefits, case management and post-intervention follow-up.

Responsibilities will also include consultation/education to Medical Center staff and service providers, the collection and maintenance of statistical data, program planning evaluation and modification, and the supervision of students as assigned.

25% Integration Recovery and Treatment section (BR ICIRT). The Social Worker will be assigned responsibilities to the ICIRT outpatient clinic at the Brockton campus. The SW will provide recovery-oriented services to Veterans with Serous Mental Illness. ICIRT addresses the symptoms and sequelae of mental illnesses of schizophrenia/psychosis spectrum, bipolar disorder.

ICIRT serves a diverse and broad range of veterans:
ages; a variety of cultures, ethnicities, racial backgrounds; a broad spectrum of socioeconomic conditions; psychosocial issues from homelessness to recent


incarceration to physical illness to significant trauma history (including military sexual trauma, combat trauma, and childhood trauma).Veterans served often have treatment refractory mental health symptoms, high suicide and safety risks, severe dual diagnoses, cognitive impairments and co-morbid medical illnesses which benefit from speculated case management, care coordination, group therapy and individual supportive therapy, family support and education, psychosocial assessment, Crisis intervention and treatment planning.

The Social Worker must have capacity for both independence and team work and provides consultation and education to colleagues regularly and is a liaison to other mental health staff, interacting with psychiatry residents, psychology and nursing

students and routine collaboration with VHA programs such as inpatient units, Intensive Community Mental Health Recovery (

ICMHR:

MHICM), Community Residential Care (CRC), Compensated Work, Therapy/Supported Employment (CWT/SE), Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV), Home Telehealth, Housing and Urban Development-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH), Local Recovery Coordinators (LRCs), Veterans Justice Outreach, and Women's Health.

Evidence of training in and utilization of evidence-based therapies (EBT's) for specific mental health diagnoses is also preferred i.e. CBT p, ACT for Psychosis, and IMR.

Compressed (four 10 hour days), 2-3 evenings are required and one weekend day is desired
