JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA)

REPORTS TO:NURSE IN CHARGE

SUPERVISED BY:REGISTERED NURSE (RN) OR LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a non-professional worker who, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, carries out simple nursing functions.These include attending the personal needs of selected residents, procuring and returning equipment, running errands and assisting in the general maintenance of the nursing unit.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Gives hygienic care:bathing, assisting with cleaning teeth, back rubs, providing water to wash hands and face, combing hair.
  2. Gives, removes and cleans bedpan.
  3. Prepares residents for meals, assists residents to eat.
  4. Assists the RN in the care of residents as directed.
  5. Reports all observations concerning residents to a Charge Nurse.
  6. Makes beds, occupied and unoccupied.
  7. Assists patients in moving and turning, getting in and out of bed, and walking as needed.
  8. Keeps water pitchers clean and filled with fresh drinking water.
  9. Answers signal lights on assigned residents and other residents.Meets residents requests if within his/her function or reports request to a Charge Nurse.
  10. Collects specimens as directed (urine, stool, sputum).
  11. Measures and records fluid intake and output of residents.(Distributes and collects intake and output record slips for nurse upon request).
  12. Assists residents to undress.
  13. Transports residents ready for discharge to their car.
  14. Serves in-between meal nourishments as directed.
  15. Gives enemas and reports results to nurse.
  16. Cares for residents in isolation.
  17. Obtains, cleans and returns nursing equipment and supplies to designated areas.
  18. Strips residents unit after resident is discharged.Cleans and sterilizes bedside utensils and makes unit ready for new occupancy.
  19. Assists in keeping department neat and clean by:cleaning bedside unit, cleaning nursing equipment, keeping service areas in order (utility room, linen room, and kitchen).
  20. Assists in keeping residents' flowers fresh and watered.
  21. Charts pertinent information on flow sheet as directed by Charge Nurse.
  22. Other duties assigned

Note:Selection of activities concerning resident care is made by the Registered Nurse responsible for the performance of the aide.Selection is based upon the nature of the care to be given and the ability of the aide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certification or eligible for certification in the State of Florida.
  • Preference given to the applicant who can provide evidence of previous satisfactory experience as a CNA.
  • Male and female are both eligible.
  • Skin test and/or chest x-ray and physical examination required.
  • Must be able to move and lift residents.
  • Must have adequate hearing and vision.
  • Must be neat and clean in appearance.
  • Can follow simple instructions.
  • Can read, write and speak grammatical English.
  • Avalilabe to work twelve hours shift
  • Hose required.
  • White shoes of substantial style.No sandals, open toes or other color shoes.Shoes must be kept polished and shoe laces kept clean.
  • Uniform should fit properly, neither too tight nor too loose, and appropriate length.
  • Nails must be short and clean.Polish may be worn if kept neat.
  • Hair must be arranged neatly.
  • Since your work requires close contact with others, we encourage the use of deodorant and discourage the use of heavy colognes which may be offensive to others.
  • Pins or other costume jewelry are not to be worn.
  • Cosmetics should be used attractively.
  • Constant contact with residents, visitors, co-workers and nursing home staff.

Persons who have been found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.
