The Department of Pathology is seeking a Support Services Coordinator to design, plan, and execute specimen intake workflows for the referral laboratory testing program. This role will also provide supervisory and technical support to clients and staff. This position is 100%-time, 1st shift, Monday-Friday from or based on desired lunch schedule, with on-call availability outside normal hours of operation.

Duties to include:
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and recommend new processes/services for the referral testing program.
  • Manage all laboratory specimen transport procedures and policies.
  • Maintain all quality standards that are applicable to the client services area and Pathology laboratory accreditation.
  • Serve as a liaison to UIDL referral laboratories, UIHC providers, and external customers.
  • Supervise UIDL referral laboratory testing program activities and UIDL client services staff.

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to meet deadlines efficiently, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and to be highly self-motivated.
  • Typically 1 - 3 years experience working directly with or supporting clinical laboratory operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including some experience with technical writing related to policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in computer software applications.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or appropriate experience in a related discipline (Biological Sciences, for example). One year internship training in an approved ASCP board certified program and three years' experience in a hospital clinical laboratory or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven track record for a strong service-oriented acumen.
  • Experience with referral laboratory testing and client services.
  • Experience with Epic and/or Beaker.
  • Experience with project management.
