Job Description
We are seeking a talented and dynamic scientist to join the Inflammation Research team. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary team utilizes cutting-edge technologies and innovative methodologies to advance medicines into clinic. The successful candidate will drive efforts in the discovery and development of novel immune-modulatory therapies for rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, and other inflammatory diseases. As a member of a cross-functional team, the successful candidate will lead discovery and translational research efforts aimed at identifying and characterizing novel therapeutics for inflammation targets, including defining and implementing critical path studies. He/she will support and represent projects across discovery research and into early development, on multidisciplinary project teams. He/she will have the opportunity career growth through acquisition of new skills, experiences, and professional relationships in a fast-paced and resource-rich environment. The position is within a larger group with efforts across a breadth of therapeutic areas and the successful candidate will also participate as an engaged member of a collaborative department.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
Responsible for designing and executing scientific research for the discovery of drug targets, the development of drug candidates, and the identification and validation of drug combinations.Independently designs, conducts, analyzes in vitro and in vivo experiments to support the initiation and/or advancement of drug candidates.Works collaboratively in cross-functional project teamsProvide direction to Research Associates or members of project teams in the initiation and execution of laboratory experimentation.Makes contributions to scientific literature and conferences through publication and presentation of research results.Proactively evaluates new technologies and develop new assays to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.Capable of preparing technical study reports, INDs, and patent applications.Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required.Must think critically and creatively, stay informed of the latest developments in the field, and have strong organizational and planning skills.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree and 2 years of relevant post graduate research experience, or drug development experience in immunology/inflammation Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background and hands-on experience in human immunology, inflammatory diseases, or immune modulation strategiesDemonstrated experience in target discovery, translational research, and drug development is preferredSubject matter expertise in the evaluation of large molecule therapeutics is preferredThe individual will have demonstrable skills and experience in leading focused hypothesis-driven biological research, as exemplified by quality publications. The successful candidate must have demonstrated success in working in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment, and to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
The salary range for this position is: $143, $185, Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
