What You Will Do:

Path to Academics, Community and Employment (PACE) at National Louis University is a three-year, post-secondary certificate program designed to meet the transitional needs of young adults with multiple intellectual, learning, and developmental disabilities. The role of the Student Life Manager (PACE) is to provide residential leadership for students and staff, as well as facilitate all aspects of supports aimed at students' emotional and behavioral functioning. This role will be responsible for Monitoring PACE students' overall wellbeing by providing behavioral/emotional support, referring to the NLU Counseling &Wellness Center as necessary and acting as the primary contact for parents/guardians regarding Student Life and dorm matters. Provides on-site oversight and 24/7 on call support to Resident Life Assistants about student crises during term weeks when students are in residence. The Student Life Manager overseas all aspects of dorm life for the students, directly supervises the Lead Resident Life Assistant and the Resident Life Assistants and provides on-call support to residential staff. This is a full time, supervisory, 12-month position with on-call responsibilities while students are in session (30 weeks total).

Essential Responsibilities
  • Monitors PACE students' overall wellbeing by providing behavioral/emotional support, referring to the NLU Counseling &Wellness Center as necessary and acting as the primary contact for parents/guardians for student life and dorm matters. Provides on-site oversight and 24/7 on call support to Lead Resident Life Assistant and the Resident Life Assistants about student concerns during term weeks when students are in residence.
  • Provides dorm management for all student issues and works directly with Lead Resident Life Assistant and Resident Life Assistants to teach and reinforce social skills development, develop student goals, and facilitate problem solving sessions as needed.
  • Approves the RLA shift schedule and duty assignment roster that is created and managed by the Lead Resident Life Assistant. Ensures that assigned duties provide for weekly Independent Living Coaching session for each student. Approves Saturday activities that are created and scheduled by administrative staff.
  • Together with Executive Director, manages parent expectations, communications and involvement with regard to social/ emotional development of students, student behavior/misconduct, student illness and similar.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution and mediation for students utilizing program guiding principles and oversees resolution of procedural violations of the Residence Hall Handbook, NLU Student Handbook, or the Residence Hall Contract. Serves as Program facilitator for National Louis University and the University Center judicial procedures that involve PACE students.
  • Creates protocols, tracking, and assessment materials that are adjusted as needed on an ongoing basis (i.e. for communication and student safety concerns).
  • Maintains updated list of student medications that are provided by each student's family.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled PACE Leadership Team, NLU Undergraduate College meetings and others as needed.
  • Other duties related to student/residence life as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Disability, Special Education, Psychology or similar.
  • 5 years of experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Emotional First Aid.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Experience using case management software.
  • Ability to Prioritize: Candidate should be able to decide at which level various situations with students should be handled such that situations are handled at the most immediate and appropriate level.
  • Strong Verbal and Written Communication: Candidate should be able to communicate clearly, succinctly and objectively with the PACE students, the families of PACE students and other PACE, NLU and University Center staff and leadership. In particular, staff should be able to use accessible language and approaches to communicate effectively with PACE students.
  • Operations Management: Candidate should be able to manage residential life operations including the approval of RLA scheduling and assignments managed by Lead RLA. Approving the scheduling of student activities (including student participation in non-PACE University Center activities).
