The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team delivers comprehensive and effective services to individuals with severe mental illness and whose needs have not been met by more traditional service delivery approaches. The selected individual will deliver community-based treatment as a member of an interdisciplinary team providing rehabilitation, clinical case management, crisis intervention and stabilization, support services, as well as supportive counseling to persons with serious and persistent mental illness. Recovery-oriented services are provided by team members via individual, side-by-side, family, and group modalities in mostly non-traditional community/outreach venues (e.g., unsheltered settings, homeless shelters, jails, hospitals, clients' homes, job sites, etc.).

This position takes the lead in initiating robust clinical discussions, injecting clinical perspective in team discussions, assisting to develop targeted interventions to address clients' needs, and helping teammates identify and develop effective solutions when roadblocks in treatment are encountered. Additionally, as a licensed clinician, the selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing referrals, gathering, and reviewing relevant clinical documentation/histories/records, and collaborating with the team's supervisor to complete intakes for new admissions, as well as annual psychiatric diagnostic evaluations for the team.

ACT services are provided in partnership with individuals and their natural supports with a strong emphasis on person-centered planning, strength-based approach to recovery, empowerment, self-determination, and independence. Ability to outreach and engage individuals both in office and community-based settings is necessary for this position.

The ACT team is located in the Mount Vernon Area of Fairfax County at the Gartlan Center (8119 Holland Road Alexandria, VA

ACT program hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Weekends and Holidays. This position typically works one weekend ( 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sat & Sun) every 4-6 weeks and one weekly p.m. shift (12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.). The team coordinates holiday coverage on a rotating basis.

Position may be underfilled as a Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence; the underfill requirements are stated below in the Employment Standards section.

Illustrative Duties

Performs complex evaluations and makes independent diagnoses using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders;Provides individual, family and group treatment;Maintains a diverse caseload of clients with acute, chronic mental illness;Approves and/or implements therapeutic treatment plans;Conducts intensive clinical interventions;Provides family therapy in a residential setting;Recommends, monitors, and coordinates clinical care to non-Community Services Board clients;Prepares court-ordered diagnostic and forensic evaluations, including competency to stand trial, sexual abnormality, presentencing, and sanity at time of offense;Provides discharge planning and coordination of after-care service plans for clients leaving state, local, and private psychiatric hospitals;Collaborates with service professionals as participant/lead of Interdisciplinary Team (IDT);Consults with professionals on a variety of problems including delivery of needed services for clinically complex cases;Provides liaison to community agencies to facilitate communication and service provision for clients requiring multiple services;Monitors and analyzes the impact of psychotropic medication on client's functioning and mental status;Provides risk assessments for dangerousness to self and others;Provides crisis stabilization and crisis management.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing; plus two years of clinical experience.

UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
This vacancy may be underfilled at the level of Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence (S26, $72, $120, The employment standards for the Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence are:Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing; plus two years of clinical experience.Ability to register as a licensed eligible mental health professional within 90 days of the appointment and able to qualify for licensure requirement to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 3 years of employment in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist. Note: A registered licensed eligible mental health professional has been approved by the applicable Virginia health regulatory board as a supervisee in clinical social work or a resident in clinical psychology, professional counseling, substance abuse treatment practice, or marriage and family therapy.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:Possession of a current license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia in one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist.Valid motor vehicle driver's license with fewer than six demerit points (or equivalent in another state) at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment with CSB.CPR/First Aid (within 6 months of appointment)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, a driving record check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Requires a National Provider Identifier.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with adults with SMI, co-occurring disorders, and a history of homelessness. Experience in delivering mental health services in the community including homes, jails, homeless shelters, hospitals, and other non-traditional community settings. Knowledge of and experience with community-based resources and treatment services and ability to collaborate with agencies and services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Performs the role of lead clinician in an interdisciplinary team that provides services to individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring substance use and mental health issues. Performs community-based assessments, screening, counseling, case management, mental health supports, crisis intervention, and community collaboration. Ability to drive a car and conduct out of office visits in homes, hospitals, jails, shelters, or outdoors. Ability to communicate with clients & coworkers. Ability to observe and report on client appearance and behavior; able to sit, walk, stand and bend; able to make clinical interventions; able to operate keyboard driven computer equipment, tablet device, and enter/retrieve data on electronic health record.
