Marsh is seeking candidates for the following position based in the Austin Lakeline office (hybrid, with three days a week in the office):

Insurance Operations Manager – Surplus Lines and Placement Data Management

What can you expect?

  • The Insurance Operations Manager works closely with department supervisors, specialists, Zone leadership, and the compliance team to ensure tax filings are completed on time and in compliance with individual state requirements
  • You will be responsible for leading a dedicated team of Insurance Operations Supervisors and Specialists who support over 200 brokers, and who will manage queues of quotes, requests, and inquiries, ensuring data is interpreted and entered correctly
  • You will collaborate with the Marsh Compliance team to raise issues leading to potential state audits and assist in data collection, both of which are key functions of this role
  • You will be responsible for managing projects within the Marsh Middle Office team, including weekly quality reviews and ongoing follow-up with brokers
  • You will be responsible for communicating feedback within your team; providing senior leadership with transactional updates, trends, and issues; and evaluating/resolving any escalated service issues

What is in it for you?

  • A leadership position at a Fortune 500 company; this role will expose you to many areas of the company, senior leaders, and various aspects of Commercial Insurance that will allow you to expand your network, gain valuable knowledge, and enhance your skills
  • A collaborative, uplifting, fun environment
  • A convenient North Austin location near the Lakeline MetroRail station, with onsite amenities like a free fitness room, showers, indoor bicycle storage, jogging trails, and onsite food service
  • Competitive pay and a full benefits package, starting Day 1 (Medical, Dental, Vision, Short- and Long-Term Disability, Life Insurance, Employee Stock Purchase program, tuition reimbursement, and a generous paid time-off allowance); plus a 401k with a fixed company contribution AND a company match, after one year of service

We will count on you to:

  • Manage a team of 5 supervisors, including coaching and on-going personal development, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring the consistency, quality, and accuracy of work being completed
  • Keep current on pending and actual changes to regulations, and assist in identifying knowledge gaps throughout our US brokerage population, leveraging specialists to train where necessary
  • Conduct monthly compliance review sessions; communicate fines and penalties resulting in errors from the department or delays from brokers to senior leadership; and partner with finance and approve check requests for tax and penalty payment
  • Continuously identify areas for process improvement to increase efficiencies, as well as participate, monitor, and/or oversee the initiatives
  • Maintain and consistently review staffing needs
  • Coordinate outstanding tax issues/remediation efforts within assigned geographies
  • Actively engage in the overall on-boarding process, including interviews of new hires up through the time colleagues are fully integrated into production

What you need to have:

  • Strong operational background (ideally in the insurance industry)
  • Minimum 5 years of department management experience in an office environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – able to clearly articulate issues, problems and resolutions within this field
  • Influencing/persuasiveness – can explain why a process or rule needs to be followed and gain colleague support/change behavior as a result
  • Quality & Compliance – high ethical behavior; understanding of rules and why they need to be followed, but flexible enough to know when a solution is workable
  • Drive and self-motivation – able to work independently, follow through on a task/complete a project/meet a deadline
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency – knowledge of basic Excel formulas and pivot tables, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience managing projects
  • Managerial aptitude – desire to coach, mentor, and develop the team you are supervising

What makes you stand out:

  • Bachelor's degree + minimum of 5 years of insurance experience a huge plus
  • Holding a current Property & Casualty and Surplus Lines License
  • Technical reporting capabilities - ability to analyze data from multiple sources, pull out pertinent data and collate into a report
  • Experience in Commercial Lines Insurance
  • Experience with change management to prepare, equip, and guide teams to make organizational changes in the way work will be done
