Job Profile: Landhawk Consulting LLC is looking for an entry-level Wildlife Biologist/Environmental Scientist to join our environmental team in the Rio Grande Valley metro, Texas. Landhawk, an environmental consulting firm established in 2012, boasts a diverse team of professionals, including wildlife biologists, environmental scientists, aquatic ecologists, archaeologists, and cultural resource specialists.

Location: This is a hybrid/remote position, with the primary location being across the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

Position Details and Expectations:
Interested candidates should submit a detailed resume outlining their relevant work experience, including handling permits (if applicable), construction/environmental monitoring, and project involvement, with a focus on South Texas special-status species.
Preferred candidates will have experience in construction compliance monitoring, biological-vegetative surveys, and conducting MBTA (Migratory Bird Treaty Act) nest surveys to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Demonstrated experience and familiarity with the flora and fauna of South Texas is highly desirable.
Excellent writing and proofreading abilities are essential for producing accurate and thorough reports, including daily/weekly monitoring compliance reports, construction survey/monitoring reports, Biological Monitoring, MBTA surveys, or similar documents.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration within a team environment.
Candidates must be able to work both independently, remotely, and collaboratively.
A reliable mode of transportation, a valid driver's license, and a clean driving record are required.
Access to a computer and high-speed internet for remote work is essential.
Flexibility to work 8-14-hour days, overtime, and weekends to accommodate project schedules is expected.
Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods, exposed to natural elements and inclement weather conditions.
Punctuality and reliability are key attributes we seek in potential team members.
Familiarity with Central Texas & South Texas endangered, threatened, and special-status species is preferred.
Responsibilities:

Training will be offered for project-specific Construction Monitoring, Biological/Environmental Monitoring, MBTA Nesting Surveys, protocol-level surveys, Geographic Information System (GIS) field data collection, reporting, and additional skills as needed.
This position offers the opportunity for full-time employment, but could be part-time if prospective employee is attending graduate school.

Duties will vary by project, but generally include:

• Conduct field surveys, including protocol-level species surveys and habitat assessments, as well as environmental assessments and surveys for threatened and endangered species.


• Relocate wildlife including but not limited to protected reptile species, injured birds, and some aquatic organisms when found.


• Conduct invasive species identification and handling, followed by the development and implementation of treatment plans, including herbicide applications, in adherence to established protocols and regulations.


• Monitor construction and environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to regulations.


• Performing stormwater BMP inspections, including SWPPP assessments.


• Prepare technical reports (daily, weekly, summary) to document survey results and environmental compliance efforts.


• Complete accurate and comprehensive daily environmental compliance monitoring forms for submission to Clients, CBP, USFWS, and TPWD.


• Develop a strong understanding of compliance requirements and your role onsite.


• Communicate effectively and respectfully with clients, construction personnel, staff members, and other stakeholders.


• Occasionally, overnight travel may be required (with travel, meals, and lodging covered).


• Work independently, remotely, and collaboratively with a team on projects of various sizes. Proficient in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.


• Perform additional duties as required with minimal supervision.

Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in wildlife biology, ecology, botany, environmental studies, wildlife management, or a related scientific field from an accredited University.

Benefits:

• Such as, if overnight travel is required, per diem is paid at GSA-published rates for the city and county of the project location.

• Mileage will be reimbursed at GSA-published rates for privately-owned vehicles.

• Paid travel time to/from job sites.
