The Research Registered Nurse is located in the Clinical Trials Unit, Research & Education Service, VA St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS), St. Louis, Missouri. The incumbent demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The Research Nurse will interact with Primary Investigators, research staff and study participants in implementing study procedures.

The incumbent has the relevant experience, knowledge and skill in managing clinical research projects and/or programs including but not limited to; managing research settings and coordinating trials (including following protocols, enrolling and interviewing patients, and obtaining informed consent); knowledge of all applicable federal and VA regulatory policies and guidelines that govern projects, including those specific to research-based projects; ability to serve as the liaison with participating investigators, coordinating center personnel, VA Central Office staff, and regulatory bodies; and ability to develop materials for and participation in meetings with participants, investigators, staff, and funding agency personnel.

The Research Nurse promotes a model of continuous learning through participation in education, consultation, role modeling, and research.

Additional duties include:
Applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the unit/team/work group level to improve care. Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care.
Supports and enhances client self-determination. Serves as a resource for clients and staff in addressing ethical issues.
Identifies and assesses resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action.
Acquires knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in area of practice. Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance.
Evaluates practice of self and others using professional standards, relevant statutes, and regulations. Takes action to improve performance.
Uses group process to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems.
Educates colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor and/or mentor.
Initiates/participates in quality improvement activities that result in approved outcomes.
Uses body of research to validate and/or change work group practice.

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
