Upper School Mathematics Teacher

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working closely with the Mathematics Department Chair and math colleagues, the Upper School Mathematics teacher will teach four or five Upper School mathematics classes and promote high learning levels using varied instructional methodologies and curriculum resources.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as an advisor to 10-12 students
  • Serve as a member of the Math Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
  • Supervise a study hall
  • Coach or lead extra-curricular activities as agreed upon with the Head of the Upper School
  • Participation in new teacher mentoring workshops
  • Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
    • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
    • Classroom experience teaching math and a demonstrated passion for mathematics instruction and high school students
    • Proven ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all levels of learners
    • Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum through the use of a computer, graphing calculators, and various online programs
    • Collaborative spirit in developing ideas and teaching methods with other members of the mathematics department including vertical teaming
    • Willingness and availability to provide tutoring for students of all ranges and abilities during daily office hours and/or study hall times
    • Knowledge and effective implementation of NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics
    • Experience with high school students in academic and extra-curricular environments
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of high school students
Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Demonstrated organizational skills Understanding of independent schools preferred
