OUR STORY
  • THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball's National League. Since 1876, the team has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee sign, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, making it the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.

HOW YOU'LL CONTRIBUTEThis position is responsible for performing the accounting, tax and budget responsibilities for Marquee Development LLC (and its wholly owned subsidiaries) and may change as the business evolves. For all assigned entities, the Senior Accountant is responsible for delivering monthly and annual financial statement close and non-income tax payments and returns on a timely basis in accordance with GAAP and Company policies and procedures.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:
  • Perform the accounting activities (e.g., recording journal entries and intercompany eliminations, completing G/L account reconciliations, monthly close) for the assigned entities and applicable subsidiary companies, and ensure all expenses, revenues and balance sheet items are recorded in a timely and accurate manner, and in accordance with applicable GAAP. Investigate and resolve reconciling items on a monthly basis.
  • Perform the accounts receivable function, including invoicing, cash collections, cash application, customer set up/management and certain accounting entries and reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, and explain variances to plan, forecasts and historical periods as applicable
  • Collaborate with colleagues to secure information and resolve issues, including partnering with other accounting department groups (e.g., A/P, P/R, tax & technical accounting) and other company departments (e.g., development, marketing & events, legal, etc.) to facilitate preparation of accurate financial statements
  • Prepare all applicable annual financial statements, and provide support to the external auditors as requested
  • Provide support to third-party tax preparers as required
  • Utilize the G/L and financial reporting systems to effectively record transactions and prepare financial statements, and approve invoices for payment including ensuring appropriate G/L coding
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and monthly projections
  • Update existing accounting policies and procedures when needed to maximize efficiency and accuracy. Implement new policies, procedures and controls as applicable to meet changing business demands
  • Make financial decisions by establishing and complying with accounting policies and procedures

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
  • A four-year undergraduate degree in Accounting from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 1.5 years of accounting and/or audit experience (2 busy seasons)
  • CPA or progression toward CPA
  • Strong accounting/financial reporting knowledge, interpersonal skills and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an organized manner and manage time efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to prioritize workload; take ownership and administer projects with little guidance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel (e.g. pivot tables, lookup functions, data validation, complex formulas, etc.)
