OverviewThe Vermont Office of the Attorney General, Department of Mental Health Litigation Unit, has an immediate opening for an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General who will be responsible for representing the Vermont Department of Health.
DescriptionThe Attorney General's Department of Mental Health Litigation unit provides legal services to all of the Department's Divisions. Responsibilities of this position include litigating involuntary treatment cases in the Vermont Superior Court Family Division, cases involving competency and involuntary treatment in the Criminal Division, and representing the Department in administrative appeals before the Human Services Board. Other duties include contract review, related administrative legal work, and training mental health providers on all aspects of Vermont's mental health laws. The Unit consists of four Assistant Attorneys General who work closely with the Department of Mental Health General Counsel.
Located in Waterbury, the AAG will be responsible for handling litigation in Vermont Civil and Criminal Courts.
CompensationThis Assistant Attorney General position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with theState of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan. The State of Vermont offers a benefit package rivaling any employer in Vermont, which includes a top-notch health care plan, generous sick and annual leave, and employer contribution to pension plans. Further, the Attorney General's Office recognizes the importance of a healthy work-life balance and support the use of flexible workplace arrangements in accordance with applicable policies.
Minimum RequirementsCandidates must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in. Candidates must be willing to travel and work independently, but within the structure of a government legal team.
