This outstanding program, developed by the Oklahoma City Thunder and Creative Arts Agency (CAA), provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and employment opportunities. The Education Specialist will play a pivotal role in curriculum development and management of educational programs to 1) ensure pivotal skill development – including data science and Python – and postsecondary matriculation for high school upper classmen, and 2) coordinate internship and job placement opportunities for college undergraduates.
In this role you will:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate Thunder Fellows' place-based program curriculum
  • Manage classroom and event logistics, ensuring a strategic blend of technical proficiency and soft skill development
  • Provide supplemental curriculum delivery, as needed
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, students, and parents to improve student attendance & punctuality
  • Curate impactful professional development opportunities for students, including internships, college tours, conferences, workshops, and educational field lessons
  • Collaborate with programmatic partners , including higher education institutions, and serve as a liaison for program-related communication and engagements
  • Follow course calendar, combining classroom learning, hands-on activities, and engagement with programmatic partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What you will bring to the role:
  • Passion for community and workforce development
  • Openness to creativity, innovation, and problem solving, while leveraging data-driven decision making
  • Master's degree preferably in education, curriculum design, education administration, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum four years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, or a related educational role (experience teaching and/or working in higher education a plus)
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail; capable of leading projects from concept to completion
  • Strong communication and interpersonal talents (written, verbal, and listening) with experience using various modes of communication (email, text, social media)
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintain detailed records, and issue reports to key partners
Additional details: This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Executive Director, Thunder Fellows. Work schedule will include office hours, evenings, and select weekends for out-of-school and summer programs and may vary depending on special projects. Primary work location will be in the historic Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Some local or regional travel may be needed, requiring a valid driver's license, sound driving record and reliable transportation. Employees are encouraged to be vaccinated for COVID-19.
