The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a proactive Director of Health Professions Development to become part of our committed team dedicated to academic excellence.

Reporting directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the chosen candidate for the Director of Health Professions Development position will take charge of overseeing the academic programs, faculty, and staff within the Health Professions Division.

The main responsibilities include devising a strategic plan for enhancing the current programs' quality, expanding offerings, and introducing new programs, certificates, and credentials that align with the requirements of the local healthcare sector.

Collaborating closely with various college stakeholders, the Director will ensure that both program and student achievements maintain the highest standards.

Located in the breathtaking Hudson River Valley in New York, our institution, Columbia-Greene Community College, provides an inspiring setting in one of the Northeast's most scenic and historically rich areas, conveniently situated just 30 miles south of Albany and 110 miles north of the bustling metropolis of New York City.

Serving Columbia and Greene Counties, a region comparable in size to Rhode Island, our 'rural' college is surrounded by vibrant towns like Catskill and Hudson, renowned for their lively arts scenes, exceptional dining options, diverse shops, and abundant recreational activities.

Columbia-Greene Community College, an integral part of the State University of New York (SUNY) network, offers a comprehensive range of academic programs leading to various associate degrees and microcredentials, one-year certifications, and specialized courses tailored to community interests.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:
  • Aligning actions with the College's Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Plan.
  • Providing managerial oversight for the AS Nursing (RN) program and Medical Assisting degree, ensuring their continuous growth and success.
  • Introduction of the Practical Nurse Certificate Program.
  • Development of new allied health profession programs, both credit and non-credit.
  • Establishing partnerships with local healthcare providers and educational institutions to position C-GCC as a premier healthcare education provider in the area.
  • Leadership and strategic supervision of clinical experiences and skills labs in the Division.
  • Formulating and executing a strategic plan for integrating simulations and innovative educational technologies to maintain outstanding student experiences and program quality.
  • Liaising with accrediting bodies like the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Securing funding resources to advance programs, educational technologies, and Division infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with Enrollment Management and Students Deans to enhance program pipelines and student success outcomes.
  • Ensuring that curriculum planning, program development, and faculty management align with the College's strategic objectives.
  • Promoting faculty retention, evaluation, and professional growth in collaboration with the Academic Affairs and Teaching Center departments.
  • Conducting regular meetings with faculty and staff within the Division.
  • Participating in relevant meetings and committees as required.
  • Compliance with College, state, and accreditation standards through report submissions and process enhancements.
  • Representing the College and Division in local community events and groups.
  • Leading advisory boards for Division programs.
  • Coordinating with Division coordinators and Academic Affairs to recommend class schedules.
  • Managing the Health Professions Division budget and associated grants.
  • Procuring necessary resources for instructional activities within the programs, such as equipment and materials.
  • Keeping abreast of healthcare education trends at state and national levels.
  • Compiling and submitting reports on departmental achievements that support institutional effectiveness.
  • Active participation in the Provost's Council.
  • Completion of additional duties as assigned by the Provost.
Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following:
  • Hold a Master's degree in a relevant field, preferably in nursing.
  • Current nursing license in the state of New York.
  • Two years of experience in both academic teaching and administrative roles within higher education.
  • Previous work experience in a clinical setting.
Preferred qualifications

Additionally, the following qualifications are desirable:
  • Doctoral degree in a related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressive administrative experience in higher education settings.
Compensation and Benefits Details

This position offers an annual 12-month salary ranging between $90,000 to $95,000, dependent on experience and qualifications. The College provides an inclusive benefits package encompassing medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, generous vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, tax-deferred compensation, and tuition waivers for employees and dependents. PSLF waivers are also available.
