POSITION SUMMARY:

This position has primary responsibility for leadership and direction of a multi-discipline manufacturing engineering organization. Lead engineering managers by providing vision and direction to enable them to maximize their effectiveness in developing and maintaining production concepts for the organization. Design a manufacturing engineering strategy, which ties into the global needs. Be part of a global leadership network to effectively implement our needs of a superior production site. This position requires an exceptional level of strategic thinking, change leadership, and global perspective.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the local and global management in creating strategic direction for the North American production sites.
  • Lead, organize, and motivate manufacturing professionals in a manner that positions SICK to assume a strategic role in providing superior solutions to global customer satisfaction, and meet project completion dates and margin goals.
  • Develop and recommend proposals together with Sr. Management to innovate improved manufacturing methods and procedures, machinery, tooling, etc.; directed at reducing manufacturing costs to achieve profit goals and quality objectives.
  • Leading the design and development of new manufacturing processes for new products, ensuring they are scalable, cost-effective, and meet global standards. Work in a multi-discipline team incl. R&D in an agile project framework.
  • Ensure that continuous process improvement is pursued throughout all areas of the business and that all operations/projects are carried out in a timely, financially sound manner consistent with SICK's goals. Initiates and maintains contacts with key officials of other organizations and companies, negotiating critical issues as necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between development and manufacturing, be a focal point for development activities. Oversee and participate in the implementation of engineering changes into manufacturing processes. Provide manufacturing approval of changes.
  • Represents the department at planning and other regular meetings to provide assistance and recommendations to resolve reengineering and technical problems.
  • Improve existing and develop new production processes and methods for the purpose of increasing output or efficiency and reduce cost. Accountable for the rate of production capability of all equipment and processes in manufacturing.
  • Provide direct interface to parent company regarding manufacturing issues across all divisions.
  • Input quality issues (internal and external), first pass test rates, scrap, rework, productivity rates, delivery performance, etc. into the operations metrics.
  • Recommend, justify and coordinate the implementation of capital equipment purchases.
  • Carry out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline or related field.
  • Master's Degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering design; knowledge of manufacturing and material procurement, and at least 5 years of team leader experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, leadership, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to develop and manage a departmental budget that meets or exceeds stated company goals and objectives.
  • Able to develop and communicate departmental procedures, polices, and standards, ensuring the technological advancement of department supports the business plans of the company.
  • Travel requirements (international and domestic): 10%
  • Able and willing to work alternative schedules including weekend, and on-call hours as needed.
  • Legally permitted to work in the United States.
  • Able to work in a general office environment.
