About our Organization and Product

The Chief Technology Officer Organization's vision is to raise the bar for technical excellence, talent, strategy, and standards across Technology. It also seeks to cultivate and foster technical innovation, as well as elevate and amplify the technical heartbeat on the organization.

One Data is a function as a service platform for our internal cloud platform within Amex. We are seeking to onboard a Senior Engineer to the One Data platform.

With One Data, you'll have the ability to build technology products that shape the way that developers across American Express build micro services. We had an immense growth in terms of the number of onboarded functions in 2023 and except that growth to continue/accelerate.

We build and provide developer support for the product. We follow an everyone on support model.

Our customers are developers, SREs. We do have a production support SRE team but it's all hands-on deck to support American Express Card Members when the SRE team needs support.

Who you are

Ability to break down complex/high level ideas into concrete design and provide proofs of concept. Hands on Java Programming experience with core Java constructs - Collections, Exceptions, Streams, and LambdasHands on experience with Async programming constructs of Java- Multithreading, Executors, Futures, CompletableFutures or Kotlin-CoroutinesGood to have knowledge on Virtual Threads and new features of Java 21+. Experience working with any of the Java frameworks on Reactive Stack - Vert.x (strong preference) and optionally Spring Reactive, RxJava, Netty, or AkkaHands on experience working with microservices / API's - Rest (required), SOAP, gRPCHands on experience with build tools -- Gradle (preferred), Maven (minimum)Hands on experience using Unit Testing Tools - Junit (minimum), Cucumber or other equivalentsHands on experience in high scale system design, performance tuning, problem diagnosis and resolutionHands on experience working with git or equivalent source code management systems - resolve merge conflicts etc.Good to have knowledge on Java Perf tooling - Analyzing heap dumps, Thread dumps, JConsole, JMCGood to have knowledge on micro benchmarking - JMH harnessesGood to have knowledge on messaging systems using Java client - Kafka, RabbitMQ etc.The 4 pillars of documentation.
