The SCCC department is seeking a Director, Research Support. The Director, Research Support oversees research and grant activities within the department with the goals of maintaining financial solvency and academic growth. Moreover, an employee in this position serves as a mentor to department management and staff on issues of research funding. The Director, Clinical Research will oversee all aspects of clinical trials and research operations, regulatory, and compliance within the Sylvester Myeloma Institute.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFICS

Responsibilities:

Administration and Management

  • Provide administrative management of the Sylvester Myeloma Institute's clinical research programmatic activities, such as ongoing activities related to clinical trial protocols, industry sponsored budgets and agreements, and any other documentation related to research efforts.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including study sponsors, investigators, regulatory authorities, clinical research personnel, and network research support teams.
  • Oversee investigator-initiated and grant funded clinical trials including development of protocols/budgets, support the contracting process, and coordinate correlative sample collection.
  • Provide oversight of pilots and operations growth projects.
  • Liaise with network research management to provide comprehensive management and planning as Myeloma clinical trials are opening at the SCCC network sites.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to oversee institutional clinical research priorities, goals, and key performance indicators.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to monitor and maintain the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of clinical research data and processes.
  • Provide advice and recommendations for research program's growth and development.
  • Lead process improvement projects to increase accruals and participate in projects to improve study approval/activation timelines.
  • Oversee and organize recurring meetings for translational and clinical trials research, protocol portfolio and trial accrual review, and disease specific projects.

Research Operations Management

  • Oversee the development and implementation of clinical trial protocols, including study design feasibility assessments, and site selection.
  • Manage research activities to ensure compliance to all standards, policies, and quality measures.
  • Deliver long-term strategic planning, oversight of daily research operations, delegating tasks to staff and managing personnel.
  • Participate in protocol-specific tasks during the study start-up, trial maintenance, and study close-out periods as needed.
  • Support research team including project manager, clinical research coordinators, data specialists, research assistants, research nurses, research nurse practitioners, and investigators.
  • Responsible for research team's workload assignments.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of an effective staffing model that best meets evolving programmatic needs.
  • Provides overall management and facilitation of clinical research activities within the Sylvester Myeloma Institute.

Education/Training, Development & Mentoring

  • Provide leadership and direction to the clinical research team, including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluation of personnel directly supervised.
  • Identify needs and provide ongoing training and guidance about the policies and procedures that are related to management and monitoring of patients on clinical trials.
  • Plan, design, and conduct complex staff education and disseminate information by means of the training sessions/presentations and/or written communications.
  • Participate in conducting department training sessions to ensure protocol compliance and dissemination of new information and policies.
  • Mentor and encourage clinical research staff to develop through participation in professional organizations, serving on committees, attending disease specific presentations, seminars, or conferences.
  • Communicate and administer departmental and institutional policy and procedures for personnel in the clinical research area.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Develops reports summarizing research activity within the department on a regular basis.

2. Maintains current knowledge of institutional and external policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

3. Serves as liaison to federal agencies and other funding sources.

4. Creates reports detailing grant spending and ensures that investigators are appropriately using funding.

5. Oversees research initiatives and database personnel.
