Middle School Humanities Instructor

The Stone Independent School seeks a full-time Middle School (grades 7-8) Humanities Instructor, which offers some opportunity to teach in the Upper School as well. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interest in problem-based learning, learner-centered pedagogy, and rigorous and complex assessments. A passion for working with middle school students is a must. Candidates should be able to teach academic writing, reading, and research, and be able to navigate the content of a middle school social studies curriculum with support. Suitable candidates might have background teaching middle school English or history, but preference will be given to candidates who have successfully taught the core skills of academic writing, reading, and research. Position Summary: Our program emphasizes the development of skills and the opportunity for students to cultivate their curiosity through a wide range of choices. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach 7th - 8th grade humanities; Teach and design interdisciplinary courses with the Middle School Team; Design and develop a skills-based curriculum with a team of humanities teachers; Teach multi-grade level electives to Upper School students, the design and scope of which are informed by teacher and student interests; Advise a group of 8-10 students, overseeing their academic and social growth; Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Senior Administrative Team; Help lead morning community time, serve as club and House leaders, mentors, and advisors Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and actively promoting anti-racism in education; Support and advance the written Mission of the School.
