The mission of the Instructor in the Education Department, regardless of curriculum, is to provide the student(s), our customers(s), with the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain entry-level employment in the field of their chosen program of study. To accomplish this mission, all instructors will utilize their talents, skills, and abilities in a coordinated and consistent team effort under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Nursing.

The following are essential qualifications, duties and areas of responsibility that each instructor agrees to accept as a condition of employment. Job duties and responsibilities are not limited to the items listed below.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**(Registered Nurse)**
- Hold a current California active license as a Registered Nurse.
- Hold a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of (1) one year full-time teaching experience in a state accredited or approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing; or psychiatric technician school within the last (5) five years; or met Community College or State University teaching requirements in California.
- Have a minimum of (2) two years experience as a Registered Nurse or licensed Vocational Nurse within the last (5) five years.

**(Licensed Vocational Nurse)**
- Hold a current California active license as a Vocational Nurse.
- Hold a Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of (1) one year full-time teaching experience in a state accredited or approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing; or psychiatric technician school within the last (5) five years; or met Community College or State University teaching requirements in California.
- Have a minimum of (2) two years experience as a Vocational Nurse or licensed within the last (5) five years

**Additional Qualifications**:

- Instructors are expected to have appropriate academic and experiential qualifications in their program of study and must meet or exceed instructor requirements set for in the state Department of Education and accreditation agency regulations. Instructors teaching courses that lead to industry certifications must possess the certification associated with the course (or demonstrate a knowledge equivalent to the certification).
- Instructors teaching major courses in programs that prepare students for certification or licensure must possess the appropriate professional certification or licensure associated with the program of study.
- Possess a sound knowledge and understanding of the professional career paths and demands of the employment field(s) in which they teach.
- Possess and demonstrate the following: a motivation, dedication and enthusiasm for teaching; sensitivity to the needs and requirements of adult learners; the ability to inspire students to a high level of achievement.
- Be able to read, write, and speak English language clearly and understandably.

**REPORTING LINE**: Reports to the Director of Nursing

**INSTITUTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:To the College, the Instructor shall**:

- Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of all school policies, and actively participate in their implementation and enforcement.
- Be committed to interdepartmental cooperation.
- Provide lesson plans when absent or late.
- Provide advance notification regarding lateness, absence, and vacation schedules. A customary minimum of two week’s notice in case of voluntary termination is requested.
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment for all students, faculty and staff.
- Actively participate in assigned non-instructional projects as business conditions may require.
- Perform on campus, all work hours for which instructor is paid, as required.

**Administrative - the Instructor shall**:

- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student academic and attendance performance.
- Submit final student grades and other reports on time as per school policy.
- Actively participate in meetings and training programs as required.
- Maintain flexibility in fulfilling the instructional needs of the school.

**Professionalism - the Instructor shall**:

- Remain current with developments within their area of instructional responsibility.
- Maintain professional dress and demeanor, according to company policies.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality when working with students, records, and administrative staff.
- Abide by all federal, state and accreditation/compliance rules and regulations.
- Maintain an attitude of enthusiasm and willingness to cooperate with others.
- Make recommendation for additions to, or upgrading of, curriculum, course materials, and textbooks.
