The Paleontological Resources Field Lead will primarily be responsible for oversight of a field-based paleontological resources monitoring team throughout large-scale construction projects. The Paleontological Resources Field Lead will primarily be responsible for coordinating daily paleontological compliance activities and monitoring duties during construction activities.

In addition your role will be to:

  • Direct and coordinate with field monitors to support paleontological resource investigations
  • Cultivate a work environment committed to the health, safety and wellness of employees
  • Establish a highly efficient and positive culture where employees are empowered and accountable for areas of responsibility
  • Coordinate paleontological monitoring at sites identified as having high, moderate, or undetermined paleontological potential, including implementation of Paleontological Resources Treatment Plans
  • Act as a technical lead to field monitors
  • Act as a resource to construction personnel and explain paleontology resource regulations and how they are applied in the field
  • Act as a point of contact for the Compliance Inspection Contractor, client, and Construction Contractor(s)
  • Verify that sites identified as having high, moderate, or undetermined paleontological potential are properly marked and flagged before work is done in the area
  • Coordinate daily with field monitors to discuss upcoming construction activities that are existing, potential problem areas and areas of concern
  • Assign responsibilities to field monitors
  • Lead field kickoff meetings
  • Direct and position paleontological resources field monitors, including creating weekly monitoring schedules and locations for each of the paleontological resources field monitors, in accordance with the schedule and construction activities
  • Coordinate with paleontological field monitors and construction personnel to provide necessary information and facilitate regular communication among all parties
  • Inspect areas of concern identified by field monitors and make appropriate recommendations to construction personnel, as required
  • Review field reports for consistency and accuracy
  • Work alongside stakeholders and paleontological engagement teams

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Paleontology, Geology, or related field of study
  • Formal leadership training would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in paleontology, or related role
  • Qualified Paleontologist with regional experience working on BLM lands in the southwestern United States
  • Experience related to transmission line construction
  • Experienced leading field work, and coordinating with various field teams
  • Professional experience working on projects regulated under NEPA or state-equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of Paleontology regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, client communications, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritizing and decision-making skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Valid Driver's License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
