We are seeking an energetic accounting professional with strong systems and technical skills to help advance our mission around the globe.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with 7-10 years of non-profit accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. The Controller manages the financial reporting, compliance, general accounting functions with heavy emphasis on managing functional areas of revenue recognition and grant administration. In addition, cross collaborate with procurement, disbursement and payroll departments. The candidate will have experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs, revenue streams and multi-currency.

Responsibilities:

  • Non-Profit Accounting:
  • Oversee all financial, grants, programs and overhead accounting.
  • Ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant award life cycle.
  • Demonstrate a track record in grants management as it relates to donor compliance and reporting for government, corporate and foundation grants.
  • Experience with NICRA and provisional fringe accounting and reconciliations, allowable and unallowable costs.
  • Experience with gift-in-kind revenue and expense accounting including GIK valuation and documentation.

General Ledger & Systems:

Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate US GAAP and CFR standards and regulatory requirements, experience with IFRS standards a plus.Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software, specifically Sage IntacctResponsible for all aspects of the monthly and annual close cyclesExperience managing financial reporting, including budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable and accounting for investments, payroll, gift-in-kind, NICRA, and other non-profit specific accounting activities.

Audit & Internal Controls:

Solid experience coordinating annual audit activities including PBC and schedule preparation and managing the relationship with external audit.Oversee various donor related audits in coordination with field programs.Prepare annual 990 report and coordinate other annual compliance and registration requirements.Work throughout the year to ensure that policies and procedures are followed, and all transactions are sufficiently documented.Review policies and internal controls to ensure that written documents align with current business processes. Collaborate with other financial leaders to evaluate and recommend enhanced controls, policy modifications.Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures.Able to research and document technical accounting positions, develop or edit existing written business processes and policies.

Analysis & Reporting:

Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managersSupport the Vice President in engaging the board's audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus. simple reportingConsistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely mannerClearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting deliverables and deadlines.Assist Sr Budget Manager in the annual budgeting and planning process.

Team Leadership:

Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, will assist with 2-3 direct reportsMentor and develop team members to further build the overall capacity and skillsets of the accounting and finance teams.Create, promote and facilitate a collaborative, supportive, positive, respectful and transparent work environment.Commitment to recruiting and training a diverse teamProvide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization.

Communications:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management or other outside partnersProvide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Must have experience managing non-profit accounting including GIK, donated services, SOA, balance sheet and full grant life cycle.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and CFR regulations.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to our mission
  • A proactive, analytical, hands-on strategic thinker
  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA and/or CPA
  • Strong demonstrated and advanced excel skills
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or other ERP platform, Salesforce
