American Express is looking for a Database Engineer with a strong background and practical experience on architecting, designing, and developing enterprise-grade database solutions for application developers utilizing Agile and DevOps methodology. Also, this role will have the opportunity to implement database infrastructure automation across the full spectrum of database development lifecycle at American Express, thereby driving agility, improved quality, and efficiencies in database software development and operations across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with Product & Development teams to define, analyse and capture business needs Documents data requirements and maintains data models to ensure seamless integration into existing data architecturesManages data assets as per the enterprise standards, guidelines and policiesDocuments Data processing requirements inclusive of data and transaction volumes, scalability, security and performance requirementsCreates and maintains detailed information about the data being stored in the database Understands the database requirements and translate into physical database design.Follows data placement procedures to identify best database product for the given requirements and re-use of existing databases when possibleBuilds and enhances database design and infrastructure required to support the Business portfolioPerforms database design review and supports database testingProvides production environment support for database systems and processesCommunicates and works collaboratively with business and product teams to support DB changes and implementationWork on assigned database features for ongoing sprints and manage database requirements based on industry trends, new technologies, known defects, and issuesPartner with delivery architects and engineers to design optimal data tier solutions to meet platform objectives and goalsFunction as an active member in an agile team through consistent development practices (tools, components, and documentation)Identify opportunities to adopt innovative technologiesEducation & Technology core competencies:Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field required, advanced degree preferred.8+ years of Database Architecture & Administration experience in a professional environment and/or comparable experience.Hands-on experience handling database administration activities including capacity planning, schema design & implementation, backup and recovery, testing, performance tuning, troubleshooting etc database development lifecycle activities forNoSQL Databases such as Couchbase, Cassandra, MongoDB databases Relational Databases like PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLServer Monitor the performance and health of the DB servers and troubleshoot DB system failures.Good to have experience in Automation using any programming language and/or Ansible for Infrastructure use cases like Upgrade, Patching etcPractical experience with Data Architecture to translate business data requirements into data models (Conceptual, Logical, Physical) and using data modeling tools.Extensive experience in Linux based DB performance monitoring by using system tools, security setup, troubleshooting and performance tuning as necessary to ensure optimum performance, patching of Linux based DB servers on regular scheduleExperience in one of the public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, and Azure preferred.Ability to use DB CI/CD to deploy Schema changes, use log aggregation tools like Splunk etc for troubleshootingDemonstrated experience in learning new Database technologies in a short time span.Experience in change management, Incident management, RFC, Problem management & RCA Salary Range: $85,000.00 to $150,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
