We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineers responsible for web application performance, availability, and reliability. Candidate is responsible to provide consultation and strategic recommendations by quickly assessing and remediating complex platform availability issues. SRE is a continuous engineering discipline that effectively combines software development and systems engineering to build and run scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. This role will ensure that American Express internal and external services have reliability and uptime appropriate to users' needs. We also ensure a continuous improvement, while keeping an ever-watchful eye, automated, on capacity and performance.
This role will drive the Site Reliability Engineering mindset which strives to use software engineering to build and run better production systems. You will write software to optimize day to day work through better automation, monitoring, alerting, testing, and deployment. You'll be expected to work with several Technology partners to identify areas of opportunity within the availability platform and build a solution to automate monitoring solutions for the modernization platform, technology, and constant innovations to drive efficiencies. You will be responsible for implementing tracing, monitoring, tooling solutions to maximize the performance and availability of our Web applications. This is an opportunity to work in one of the best Technology units to help improve customer experience for American Express digital assets and influence how millions of people interact with their cards, their merchants, and their money.
Job Responsibilities
Hands-on engineer with expertise in developing complex, large scale enterprise applications/toolsResponsible for technical aspects of software engineering for assigned applications including design, developing prototypes, and coding assignmentsWork with product owners to define requirements for new features, build product roadmaps and plan increments of workEstablish and accepts responsibility for engineering practices across teams for example the code review, build and release process and the effectiveness of the retrospectiveEmpower teams to automate demand driven scalable application deployments in test or production environmentsApply specialized knowledge of industry standards or practices to assigned initiatives in order to identify complex and or broad problems and issues andformulate recommendationsCollaborates with leadership across teams to define solutions, technical implementation to drive software maturity and practicesStrong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well in a diverse team-focused environmentQualificationsBS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline, or equivalent 8+ years work experience in DevOps/SREDevelopment or support of Python, Machine Learning, Java/J2EE/REACT Java Script, and Node applicationsResearch latest technology, concepts, conceptualize solution and develop proof of concept that will improve resiliency and performance of the production infrastructureDesign and implement innovative solution/framework that will improve software engineering velocity, infrastructure resiliency and security, and data availabilityDevelop common framework components (to be leveraged by enterprise applications), define standards for configuration, monitoring, reliability, and performance engineeringExperience in designing mission critical highly available enterprise applicationsHand on experience with performance testing framework design, tuning Java applicationsExperience in managing relational and NoSQL databasesHands on experience on enterprise tools set such as Splunk, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, BMC, Prometheus etc.Experience in handling DDoS/BOT attack and different security remediationsExperience with Splunk and/or ELKKnowledge of Public Cloud technologies such as GCP, AWS, AZURE etc. would be an advantageExperience with agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user storiesChannel-specific architecture skills as required by the platform, such as web, mobile, voice or interactive mediaPeople management skills - provide regular feedback and mentor group of engineersFull understanding of Service Oriented Architecture design principles, execution patterns and performance optimizationFoundation in design, data structures and algorithms, and strong analytical and debugging skills with customer-facing products experienceEnterprise thinking - find opportunities to educate and learn from other groups, including mobile & web engineering teamsLeadershipAbility to lead a geographically dispersed team that is composed of colleagues and contractors located across the US, UK, and IndiaStrong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well in a diverse team-focused environmentLiaise between SRE, development, Product Owners, and other partner teams to improve performance and availabilityAbility to build positive relationships with your team, business and technology partners to achieve established goalsAbility to effectively interpret technical/business objectives and challenges and articulate solutionsInfluence and lead team members with creative thought leadership with data driven changes and improvements by challenging status quoDemonstrate the ability to effectively communicate to internal business clients and leadership on each facet of issue handling including (but not limited to): issue identification, service restoration, solutions to permanently resolve to ensure high levels of ongoing service etc. Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
