Summarized Purpose:

Provides strategic direction across all therapeutic areas and other divisions across the organization to ensure a customized biotech delivery model that is most effective for portfolio of clients. Provides consultation, direction and leadership to functional leads and employees to ensure operational excellence, consistency, quality, innovation and learning across the portfolio of work. Portfolio lead has overall accountability in partnership with designated leads for client relationships and satisfaction across an assigned portfolio. Informs functional leads and other key internal stakeholders on operational and strategic priorities to promote collaboration and creativity. Influences internal operations to minimize potential for risk and maximize client satisfaction.

Functions

  • Partners globally with other groups to develop new business and to deliver existing business. Responsible for achieving overall financial goals (sales/repeat business, revenue and profitability), and ensuring the timely execution of clinical trials and other services.
  • Partners with cross functional leadership on the continuous development and improvement of business processes to support teams and to ensure that work is uniform, complete and managed appropriately.
  • Develops excellent working relationships with internal colleagues and leaders responsible for the delivery of projects and services to improve information exchange, project delivery, and understanding between groups. Ensures coordination across geographies, therapeutic areas and functions and achieve superior delivery of projects and services.
  • Provides ongoing consultancy, coaching and feedback to colleagues involved in delivering projects and services on behalf biotech clients to improve the overall understanding of the client and ability to deliver to the expectations of the clients.
  • Develops excellent working relationships with the Business Development leadership team to enable advanced business planning for project delivery and expansion of the portfolio of business.
  • Assists in business development activities, representing PPD biotech at bid defenses, ensuring realization of the PPD biotech vision.
  • Utilizes systems, tools and reports to identify trends in risks and/or issues that present opportunities to leverage PPD Biotech team influence and expertise.
  • Collaborates with the Biotech leadership team and other senior, therapeutic area, geography and functional lead colleagues to enable oversight of operational performance, resourcing, financial health/strategy, and business planning and execution.
  • Serves as the customers' executive single point of contact, and escalation support person for all operational issues/discussions. Communicates with sponsors regularly to identify potential problem areas and acts quickly to remove the risk/resolve the issue.
  • Represents Operations at the governance level and contributes to the compilation of goals and business plan objectives for the strategic partnership.
  • Strong Clinical Operations experience

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 15+ years).

In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Management Role:

No management responsibility

Working Conditions and Environment:

  • Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.
  • Occasional drives to site locations with occasional travel both domestic and international.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day.
  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Frequent mobility required.
  • Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups.
  • Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.
  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.
