This position serves as a Command Center Operations Specialist in the Enterprise Production Operations Systems (EPOS) Operations Center - night shift.

In this role you will perform advanced level enterprise system and network operations control work and monitor, operate, and coordinate the enterprise computer systems.

In addition, you will perform startups, shutdowns, system dumps (tasks, system, spool, etc.), sysplex coupling facility structure, moves, restores and monitors system performance and measurements.

Essential Functions

35% Under general supervision, serves as a Command Center Operations Specialist for the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT):

  • Performs computer control functions and advanced level enterprise system and network operations control work.
  • Monitors, operates, and coordinates the enterprise computer systems by using various systems and software tools to ensure systems, operating platforms, subsystems, applications, networks, and peripheral hardware are operating properly.
  • Performs startups, shutdowns, system dumps (tasks, system, spool, etc.)
, sysplex coupling facility structure, moves, restores, monitors system performance and measurements.

  • Performs online maintenance and makes system changes by following system checklists and performs assigned system updates.
  • Completes reports on the success or failure of job/systems and submits to the responsible duty manager identified on the provide call lists.
  • Performs tasks as stated in the data processing guide.
  • Coordinates and implements changes to the enterprise computer systems to ensure appropriate availability and control of resources in accordance to established procedures, production schedules and DoIT Change Management policies.
35% Monitors various systems and contacts on-call staff to resolve any unresolved issues, such as server failures:

  • Maintains secure key logs and keys.
  • Researches, resolves and circumvents interruptions to processing components and network connectivity through following standard operational processes, procedures, and diagnosis.
  • Coordinates contacts with and scheduling of non operational support resources such as users, vendors, and other technical staff as needed.
  • Documents incidents, actions, and issues.
  • Presents oral and/or written information to others with clarity and precision.
  • Maintains satisfactory working relationship with others.

15% Places service calls for hardware problems:

  • Records all aspects of each call on the daily shift report.
  • Answers general questions.
  • Forwards more agency specific issues to state agency helpdesks.
10% Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field:

  • Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on IT products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.
  • Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations.
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires three (3) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Technician level.
OR

  • Requires two (2) years of college including coursework in the data processing field.
  • Requires two (2) years of related experience.


Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience performing enterprise system and network operations control work.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience researching, resolving, and circumventing interruptions to processing components and network connectivity.
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present information to others with clarity and precision.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose system issues and coordinate efforts to resolve.
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
