JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the Fixed Assets Accounting and Property Accounting teams in the accounting for development projects, capital expenditures, and operating property financial results, including the accounting for real estate acquisitions and dispositions, as well as ensuring compliance with accounting rules and maintaining accounting policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Oversee Fixed Assets and Property Accounting teams responsible for accounting activities related to CamdenâTMs development projects, capital expenditures, and operating property financial results for both multifamily and retail lines of business.

Manage and mentor two accounting managers and staff while creating and promoting a supportive work environment.

Maintain and apply accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP, as well as ensure compliance with internal controls.

Identify topics, research accounting standards, and prepare technical memos to support new or changes to existing accounting policies and procedures. Bring a point of view rooted in technical accounting literature.

Lead the accounting processes for acquisitions and dispositions of real estate. Act as liaison with Real Estate Investments, Finance, and Legal in the preparation of related closing statements.

Collaborate with other groups, including but not limited to, Construction, Facilities, Treasury, Finance, and IT to continually improve processes, resolve issues, increase efficiency, and generally promote cross-functional success.

Participate in ERP financial system transformation projects and other special projects.

Support Financial Reporting in the preparation of data disclosed in Form 10-Q and 10-K SEC filings, as needed.

Contribute to annual budgeting process in areas of capital expenditures, depreciation, overhead allocations, and operating property financial results.

Organize and manage responses to internal and external audits including quarterly and annual SOX and financial audits.

Qualifications

BachelorâTMs and/or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance

Certified Public Accountant

5-10 years of professional accounting experience required with at least 3+ years in a leadership position

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Technology savvy, including extensive experience with ERP systems (Oracle and/or SAP), high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and knowledge of business intelligence tools (e. g. , Microsoft Power BI, etc.)

Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team in a fast-paced and high transaction volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness

Strong analytical and multi-tasking skills

Detail oriented and highly organized

Job is intermittently sedentary but requires mobility (i.e., climb stairs)

Will use some repetitive motion of hand-wrist in using computer and writing

Works in a typical office setting

Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position

Must handle stressful, urgent, novel and diverse work situations on a daily basis

May require long hours and odd schedules (including weekends)

Position requires periodic travel by automobile to handle work-related activities

May require airline travel, out-of-town and /or overnight trips

Attendance and punctuality is essential for success in this position

Hazards can be minimized with proper lifting techniques, SDS, general safety training, and wearing appropriate PPE
