Job Title: Real Estate Accounting Director

Join Our Team as a Real Estate Accounting Director

We are looking for an experienced and strategic individual to take on the role of Real Estate Accounting Director. You will oversee property accounting and construction accounting functions at our organization. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in real estate accounting, construction accounting, and financial management. Strong leadership skills are essential to effectively manage and mentor a team.

Responsibilities of the Accounting Director:

  • Leadership and Management:
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and professional development opportunities to enhance growth and performance.
  • Cultivate a high-performing team culture focused on collaboration, open communication, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Lead by example, showcasing a commitment to integrity, ethics, and excellence in financial management practices.
  • Collaborate with other departments and senior management to align with organizational goals and initiatives by offering financial expertise and strategic insights.
  • Property Accounting:
  • Collaborate with property management teams to create and maintain annual property budgets and forecasts, offering financial insights and analysis as required.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide budget variance explanations, working closely with property and asset managers to address discrepancies.
  • Construction Accounting:
  • Work with development and construction teams to monitor project costs, budgets, and provide financial analysis during construction.
  • Review and approve invoices, change orders, and other project-related expenses in collaboration with project managers and contractors.
  • Provide financial guidance to the development team during project planning and budgeting phases, assisting with financial modeling and analysis as needed.

Qualifications for the Accounting Director:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in real estate and construction accounting.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail and interpreting complex financial data.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in managing and developing accounting teams.
