Job Summary

The Sr.

Manager, Advanced Analytics is critical in achieving our vision of keeping and continuously evolving advanced analytics in MAPFRE as a competitive advantage.

The position is a hands-on technical role that focuses on the use of advanced analytics to address business problems in all functional areas including marketing, product, actuary, operations, and claims.

The qualified individual will manage the solution delivery of Advanced Analytics (AA) projects, ensuring the use of the appropriate frameworks and tools, the collaboration with IT and the Business and the obtention of innovative and successful results in time, and will also be responsible for the management, guidance and development of a team.

This role requires proactivity in order to propose solutions and manage risks and uncertainty.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education: Master's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.

Experience: - 9 years or Associates Degree equivalent plus years.

Knowledge: General knowledge of industry, practices, standards, and concepts within related operations and field of work. Familiarity with management practices.

Decision Making: Influences development of overall objectives including long-range goals for the organization. Typically exercises judgment within broadly defined policies and practices. Establishes, modifies operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate units. Recommends modifications to broad operating policies which may impact projects, operations, and considerable expenditure risk and major portions of operations. Problems are generally diverse, complex and impact major business segments.

Supervision Received: Assignments are received in objective-oriented terms, and combine both strategic and tactical responsibilities. Work is reviewed for unit's overall adequacy in meeting organizational objectives.

Leadership: First level manager who typically manages exempt employees and or subordinate supervisors of non-exempt employees. Direct reports typically exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments. Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidance. Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance requirements.

Problem Solving /Operations/Direct Work Involvement: Responsible for all projects assigned to subordinate unit. Acts as advisor to subordinate supervisors, managers, staff, to resolve technical or operational problems. Subject to approval, modifies organizational structure.

Client Contacts: Frequent contacts with internal and external parties at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling project phases. Communication typically involves persuasion, and negotiation with middle and senior management levels.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and experience requirement(s):

  • Formal Education in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative analytical field.
  • 8 years of experience in data science, or equivalent quantitative analysis.
Special skills, knowledge, or certification and/or licensure required for position:

  • Experience in insurance industry, or comparable consulting.
  • Strong programming skills in python, SQL
  • Strong Machine Learning and Statistics skills.
  • Professional experience building, implementing and/or maintaining advanced analytics models on very large datasets using MLOps practices.
  • Experience applying advanced analytics to develop solutions for areas such as underwriting, pricing, product development, risk management, operational optimization, retention, fraud detection, claim management, and marketing.
  • Deep understanding of the business of P&C insurance and insurance data.
  • Proven project and solutions delivery management skills; ability to plan, execute and control a project, establishing realistic estimates and reporting metrics, effectively allocate limited resources.
  • Ability to assess project risks and exposures; identify options and alternatives, make decisions, and implement improvements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong ability to explain technical results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong communicator who can deal effectively across all departments at all levels, creating presentations to communicate the results.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to coach, direct and develop individuals to achieve individual, departmental and company goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of supervisory and/or managerial experience
  • AWS cloud practitioner or other cloud experience and titles.
