Position Brand Description:
Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) is a division of Lilly's Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC). GPACE offers automation solutions encompassing measurements, control systems, data integration, and project delivery. Serving as a technical resource for training, standards, and overseeing Lilly's primary automation platforms, GPACE's primary clients include global manufacturing, development, and Global Facilities Delivery (GFD).
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead automation initiatives for major Capital projects and corporate directives with a focus on the Global Parenteral Network.
- Provide automation assistance to external/contract manufacturing partners.
- Supervise system integrators and internal Lilly team members to ensure comprehensive automation delivery.
- Support key corporate projects including life cycle management, Engineering information management, and cybersecurity.
- Evaluate new technologies and innovative trends to develop proof of concepts and share applicable use cases within Lilly.
- Champion automation governance and standardization across Drug Substance and Drug Product manufacturing networks for major equipment design and Automation/IT systems.
Key Objectives/Deliverables
- Prioritize safety and continuously seek enhancements for both personnel and equipment safety. Integrate safety considerations into process automation design.
- Process Automation Design - Provide support for manufacturing facilities (including external sites) and Global Facilities Delivery during project development and design phases. Ensure that project design adheres to specified requirements, addresses life cycle costs, and eliminates unnecessary complexity. Utilize replication and best practices to optimize project expenses.
- Project Engineering - Take charge of automation design and delivery for major capital projects. Offer appropriate levels of project implementation support. Collaborate with Global Facilities Delivery and external partners to establish a robust Automation Project Management structure for successful project delivery. Gain comprehensive understanding of Lilly's core manufacturing processes from Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) through distribution, as well as the process development lifecycle from inception to retirement.
- External Influence and Benchmarking - Stay abreast of, and influence where applicable, changes in external regulations and standards on Lilly's behalf, ensuring continuous compliance. Extract benchmarking insights from academia and industry.
- Hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related scientific field.
- Have at least 3 years of experience in automation machine control, process control, or similar work in a related field.
- Possess experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or a related life science sector.
- Have prior involvement in supporting automation activities within the parenteral drug product domain, specifically aseptic filling/formulation/equipment preparation.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in system integration design and implementation.
- Work experience with validated systems in a pharmaceutical setting.
- Demonstrate expertise in one or more automation platforms, preferably Rockwell Automation Systems.
- Experience in delivering automation system projects and major capital projects, including schedule and cost management.
- This role will be located in Indianapolis, IN to support major capital project executions. Extensive travel, both domestic and international, will be necessary, with potential short-term assignments to aid project deliveries.
- Work hours are 8-hour days, Monday through Friday, with potential overtime and occasional weekend/holiday work required for project support.
- Travel: Expect domestic and international travel (up to 35%) with a possibility for more.
