Assistant controllers should have strong analytical, technology, communication, and organizational skills. This position generally requires at least five years of experience in accounting or finance and a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. The Assistant Controller is responsible for a variety of advanced accounting activities in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles including payroll processing, account reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger accruals, period-end, and month-end close, and financial reporting. As a key member of the Corporate Finance team, you will be responsible for driving processes, creating efficiencies, as well as being a key contributor in the department's decision-making process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION + RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare/review monthly reconciliations of pertinent general ledger and all company bank accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Lead and complete the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities, including all supporting documentation.
  • Assist with timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP) along with additional reports as required.
  • Manage daily treasury, cash processing and cash reporting activities.
  • Enhance and maintain internal controls for the Company.
  • Provide support for the annual external audit including the preparation of support schedules as needed.
  • Analyze and report cost variances.
  • Supervise accounts payable specialist and staff accountant.
  • Provide support for the annual external audit including the preparation of support schedules as needed.
  • Develop into subject matter expert for the financial ERP system.
  • Manage weekly timesheet process for timely submissions, approvals and coding.
  • Prepare monthly Balance sheet and expense reconciliations in-line with standard operating procedures.
  • Drive for continuous improvement and efficiency.
  • Work cross functionally with other departments throughout the organization and develop strong working relationships with those teams.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees:
  • Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Review and reconcile payroll data, including deductions, withholdings, and company contributions.
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll calculations and resolve any discrepancies or issues.
  • Stay updated on payroll laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate employee data and information.

QUALIFICATIONS + PREFERENCES

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
  • 5+ years professional accounting experience.
  • 2+ years payroll experience.
  • ADP Workforce Now experience preferred.
  • Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision experience preferred.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • Strong Understanding of GAAP accounting standards.
  • Well organized, proactive and must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to demonstrate ethical behavior and support McAdams' philosophy and values.
  • Quick learner with strong attention to detail, able to independently identify and resolve issues by applying critical thinking to complex accounting issues.
