Role Summary: The Multifamily Financial Controller will play a crucial role in managing the financial components of our multifamily property portfolio. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in multifamily property accounting and a comprehensive understanding of real estate financial practices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, and legal counsel.
  • Prepare and distribute timely monthly financial statements.
  • Coordinate the preparation of necessary regulatory reports.
  • Investigate technical accounting issues to ensure compliance.
  • Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
  • Manage compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax obligations.
  • Collaborate closely with Community Managers and the COO to guarantee the accuracy of financial reports and budgets.
  • Successfully manage all aspects of accounting, finance, cash management, risk management, and information systems, including cash flow projections.
  • Maintain accurate escrow analyses.
  • Supervise accounts payable functions, including issuing checks, setting up wire/ACH payments, maintaining vendor files, and addressing vendor inquiries.
  • Prepare reconciliations for operating and tax expenses as dictated by governing documents.
  • Ensure timely and accurate record maintenance in compliance with GAAP or other accounting standards.
  • Conduct month-end closing procedures, including the preparation and review of account reconciliations for complex accounting areas.
  • Perform general ledger reviews and analyses.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting preparation process.
  • Prepare documentation for various audits as required.
  • Analyze monthly and quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules, working closely with property teams to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare quarterly debt compliance documentation, including compliance certificates and supporting materials as required by loan agreements.
  • Assist in the initiation of new projects with guidance from the COO, which may involve setting up properties in accounting systems and managing acquisition accounting schedules.
  • Implement procedures to ensure internal controls are effectively maintained.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to mitigate risks, control costs, and manage cash resources to fulfill organizational commitments.
  • Prepare tax projections and workpapers for tax preparation.
