Position Summary
The VP, Cell Therapy Drug Product Manufacturing Operations is responsible for overseeing all internal cell therapy drug product manufacturing sites. The role will set strategic direction for internal manufacturing operations and ensure reliable supply in compliance with global cGMP standards.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Accountable for all internal Drug Product Manufacturing operations and related budget and spend. Partners with quality, technical, regulatory, supply chain, and procurement functions to ensure reliable and compliant supply of cell therapy products.
  2. Leading strategy development and execution
    1. Utilizes insights from an integrated understanding of business and local external environment to provide strategic input into creation of site and product supply strategies.
    2. Develops and implements site strategy and plans that are aligned with the broader organizational strategy.
    3. Knows the local economic, market, regulatory, environmental and industry trends and uses trend data to maximize opportunities and minimize risk exposure.
    4. Champions Operational Excellence by institutionalizing changes in process, practices, business models, governance, etc.
    5. Builds appropriate, strategic relationships with external partners.
    6. Anticipates risk and builds contingencies to help mitigate impact.
  3. Delivering financial commitments
    1. Effectively manages P&L (bottom line) to optimize financial performance.
    2. Delivers financial commitments to optimize short term performance and long term growth while ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
    3. Appropriately allocates resources to align with supply strategies.
    4. Conducts financial reviews to monitor business performance.
    5. Establishes appropriate budget goals aligned with the internal strategy and plans.
    6. Enhances and ensures financial forecasting / projection accuracy.
    7. Understands external financial pressures (including cost of goods), anticipates potential effect on business and takes appropriate action.

    1. Represents BMS interests with important external stakeholders as appropriate and aligned with corporate direction, e.g. government and regulatory officials, industry and industrial associations, and the media.
    2. Ensures effective management of the relationship with external third parties, where involved. Maintains company's rights under the contractual relationship and complies with contract in conduct of operations.
    3. Strengthens and improves the image of BMS and the pharmaceutical/health care industry.

    1. Serve on the Cell Therapy Development and Operations leadership team with a Board of directors mindset to create a unified and seamless cross-functional leadership team that works together to achieve organizational objectives.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  1. 15+ years of biopharmaceutical operations/manufacturing technology experience in a complex global environment with a track record of establishing productive relationships internally and externally. Experience in aseptic operations a plus.
  2. BS/BA in Technical Field (Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, related life sciences or engineering) with advanced technical degree, MBA, and/or equivalent experiences desirable.
  3. Demonstrated leadership in managing multifunctional, experience and diverse teams within an Operations environment.
  4. Leadership experience in one or more functions (e.g. Production, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing Technology).
  5. Leadership experience in different manufacturing environments and in similar matrix, multi-location environments.
  6. Experience working in and with multiple geographies.
  7. Understanding of regulatory environment and challenges including experience interfacing on government/policy issues.
  8. BioPharmaceutical industry experience a plus, aseptic drug product manufacturing desired.
  9. Experience in being the lead change agent in complex transformational activities.
  10. Ability to travel on an as-needed basis, up to 50%.
