94 AB Acute Psychiatric Units are focused on assisting Veterans to return to their "normal life", ensuring that psychosocial, medical, and emotional concerns are addressed as well.

Duties

This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 31, 2024. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be February 6, 2024. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled.


Central Texas VHCS is in the process of making a cultural change, shifting from a disease-focused approach to a health and wellbeing approach, in order to implement the Whole Health System of Care.

This is a VA-wide initiative to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to improve healthcare delivery at all stages of Veteran care.

This entails moving from an episodic, "siloed" approach to an interdisciplinary, holistic approach, emphasizing self-care in the larger context of well-being.

All staff in this facility will be part of this process, shifting the focus from the question, "What's the matter with you?" to the question, "What matters to you, and how can we help you live your best life?" This strategy also involves integrating a full range of conventional approaches with Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) approaches in order to optimize lifelong health and well-being, as defined by the Veteran, rather than narrowly focusing on disease management.

Performs initial and on-going physical and nursing assessment according to accepted standards of nursing practice. Assesses, plans, and evaluates patient care needs. Carries out physician orders. Administers prescribed medications and monitors vital signs. Participates in treatment team conferences to assist in planning and revising goals, objectives and interventions appropriate to the age-related and problem-specific needs

of each patient. Changes in patient's physiological, behavioral and medical status are recognized, reported and documented as they occur. Collaborates with the treatment team to revise goals, objectives and interventions appropriate to the changes in patient status. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Instructs and educates patients and families. Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. Implements nursing plan of care for assigned patients and conducts and/or co-leads group therapy sessions for patients. Orients and mentors new staff members.
