Responsibilities:
  • The primary responsibility of the Tool Room Manager is to technically support, implement, and improve the tool room's processes and procedures while consistently assuring the smooth operation of the tool room's main functions of primarily providing prototype, new tool builds for new product development, and supporting production tools repair for North America.
  • The Manager will support machine and process capability buildout planning and execution for the North America Tool Room in partnership with plant leaders locally and across North America.
  • Processes include but are not limited to tooling production planning, consumable tooling inventory, tooling raw stock, Preventative Maintenance, and talent development while factoring in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Cost and living Attitudes/ Guiding Principles.
  • As part of the local plant operations leadership team, the Tool Room Manager will ensure clear and efficient communications and support with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, tool room, facilities, finance, customer service, capture, and cross functional agile teams daily.
  • In close collaboration with our site leaders, the manager will articulate our strategy locally and provide consulting and technical assistance to other sites as needed.
  • Using technical expertise and soft skills the manager will lead and develop direct reporting Tool Makers, and indirectly technical cross functional partners, making sure that our skill matrix is complete.
  • Responsibilities also include providing production support by prioritizing and assigning repair and maintenance of production tools, maintaining EQMS, Smart Sheets and or systems identified for work orders and reporting.
  • Supporting and implementing new technologies applicable to the Tool Room, engineering, Lean Manufacturing processes, Industry 4.0, CAD/CAM integration, and other next generation capabilities.
  • The Tool Room Managers' experience, maturity and composure creates a constructive environment for their technical peers so that they can develop their own technical leadership and grow our business expertise beyond its current boundaries.
Qualifications:
  • Understanding of technology and procedures required of tool making process.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM systems and methods of modeling and tooling techniques.
  • Understanding of machine design and jigs/fixtures to aid in manufacturing.
  • Understanding of validation techniques including DOE, OQ, PQ and similar methods is preferred.
  • Understanding of tooling methods and machinery required to build injection/transfer molds is preferred.
  • Strong ability to lead a diverse team.
  • Strong ability to digest challenging applications and determine the best possible solution or to present multiple options to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Ability to handle priorities from competing aspects of plant and development group.
  • Ability to come up with creative solutions, sometimes using untried or new technologies and techniques.
Education/Minimum Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (i.e. Mechanical, chemical, industrial), or related technical field, or 10+ years' experience in manufacturing leadership role will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years' work experience as Manufacturing Engineer, Project Engineer, or Application Development Engineer in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • 3+ years' experience in a management position is required
