This is a highly visible role that requires a keen strategic thinker who will develop a DEIB roadmap for the school that includes co-development of curriculum; recruitment and retention of students and faculty/staff from underrepresented communities; programming; communications; and professional development and training. This role offers an opportunity to build on a foundation of commitment to the principles of DEIB and then move the work to
the next level by weaving it more fully into all aspects of the community and curriculum. The Director will be a self-starter with a clear vision of where to take DEIB for Redwood Day and how to get there. Putting strategy into action, the Director will be an avid
collaborator who will engage with key stakeholders and have a strong understanding of how best to utilize available resources including faculty/staff and parents. Ultimately, this role will build institutional capacity around DEIB–helping all Redwood Day adults improve their ability to deliver the DEIB outcomes sought in the Strategic Plan.


STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
The Director of Equity and Belonging will partner with the Head of School and the leadership team to promote the principles of DEIB with a particular focus on improving student and faculty/staff experience. They will guide, monitor, assess, and promote the
quality and efficacy of this work by prioritizing the following:



• Manage operational implementation of Strategic Plan goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

• Lead the K–8 Equity and Inclusion team to review, develop and maintain curriculum and programming, including for student Affinity Groups


• Work in partnership with the Admissions Office in the areas of recruitment,
admissions, and retention

• Work in partnership with the Parent Guardian Association to ensure that institutional practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion are integrated into their work (nominations, room parent selection/communication, community events, fundraising events, etc.)

• Develop and implement strategies to recruit, retain, and support diverse faculty
and staff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and the Board of Trustees Diversity Committee

• Serve as a staff liaison to the PGA Diversity in Action (DIA) Committee to
provide vision and leadership to this group

• Ensure that activities, communications, and programs reflect the School's mission as a
diverse, inclusive, and equitable community

• Support the student community, as needed, when issues of equity, inclusion, and belonging arise and/or when students need support processing world/external events

QUALIFICATIONS AND
REQUIREMENTS


• A Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's preferred)

• A minimum of five years of teaching and/or administrative experience in a school setting

• 3–5 years of experience within the practice of DEIB (in K–8 schools, preferred) and strong understanding of how to introduce the principles in developmentally appropriate ways for
students in K–8

• Knowledge of pedagogy, curriculum, and child and adolescent development

• Strong experience as a presenter and professional development leader

• Strong familiarity with current research, data, and successful implementation strategies related to diversity, equity and inclusion work in independent schools
