Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an IT Professional 2 in the University Libraries. The Professional will be part of the Libraries Digital Services Department. Under the direction of the Manager of Digital Services, this position will support two areas: helping users publish their scholarship in the University's institutional repository and efforts to preserve research data generated on campus using the Libraries' digital preservation system. This work involves troubleshooting technical issues and applying best practices regarding file formats and metadata, while working closely with faculty and students. Additionally, the team member in this position collaborates with stakeholders like the Office of Information Technology and our vendors to ensure the institutional repository and research data systems remain online and available to the campus community.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and two (2) years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security; OR
  
• Two (2) years of experience as an IT Professional I in Nevada State service; OR
  
• Four (4) years of relevant technical experience as an IT Technician IV or above in Nevada State service; OR
  
• An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates are encouraged to apply with the following experience:

• Experience working in a higher education and/or public agency
  
• Customer service experience, especially with respect to troubleshooting technical issues
  
• Familiarity with repository or asset management systems
  
• Ability to learn and leverage API interfaces to automate or enhance system integrations
  
• Understanding of research data and its management
  
• Knowledge of digital preservation standards and best practices
  

Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Compensation Grade

Grade 38 (Entry, Step 01 $31.63/hr.; Step 05 $37.78/hr.; Step 10 $47.31/hr.)

The classified employee pay scale is divided into 10 steps. Most employees start at a step 1 and are eligible for an annual step increase with satisfactory performance, until they reach the maximum, step 10. Initial step placement is based on experience and qualifications. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate's qualifications, internal equity and budgets.
